For those of you that are going to be able to attend Detroit's AutoRama this weekend, you've got to look up Brian and his new heap. The car is absolutely stunning. :3gears:
:TU: She sure looks nice! One thing for sure he`s gonna be pretty lonely in that class. There can`t be many of those there. Can`t wait to see it. :3gears:
Somehow I think Brian will either be flying around the rafters from the jubilee of getting it done and in the show, or asleep from the thousands of hours in this thing. It needs to be in one of those sealed "bubbles" with controlled humidity and temp or in a museum. It's that nice. It is totally awesome in everyminute detail. What you see is amazing, what's behind that is even more amazing....like the horn button, the fuel pump, etc. etc. and you should hear this thing..........awesome.....Broderick (Dan Matthews) is smiling down on you, Brian. :TU: :TU: :TU: Speed shifting 3 on the trees is difficult, though. Can't go to the local junkyard and buy trans for $5 like we did years ago when these things were new. Used to carry spares in the trunk of my old Fords.
Glad to see the pile of bolts turned into this beauty! Great job on this one Brian. I am sure the car has already been christened in Busch! Can't wait to see this beast run! :3gears:
Rusty, I'll have you know that I was the first one sitting in the car this past Sunday, with a Bud Light in-hand, making VROOOM VROOOM noises in Brian's garage. :beer He said that he hadn't even done that yet. :eek2:
That is one sweet looking Freight-train! Locomotion. So, what are the spec's on the Freight-train's drivetrain? Can't vote without some more info. What does it weigh? Does it have the railway-crossing-airhorn? That thing would mangle a bass boat! ... for that matter, flatten a certain Firebird.
Brian get that tri-power and beautiful cast aluminum air cleaner on that big ole honkin Merc? Oughta be a sight to behold!! Good lookin Brian. Congrats !! :TU:
big motor/big h.p. It's a 430 cubic inch/400 H.P. Tri power, 3 on the tree and a 4.56 rear gear. Look's like all the hours of hard work are paying off, it's the nicest looking Edsel I've ever seen :3gears: Nice work Brian :TU:
Interestingly enough, FOREVER the notion was that the 392 Hemi / 375HP was the bad hombre in the '50's ...... WRONG ! The '58 Mercury, 430 MEL series engine, with the tri-power, at 400 HP, was THE biggest HP motor for the entire '50's decade !!! :eek2: Brian is pretty confident that it is lighter than his '64, which weighs in at 41xx#'s. His 312 Y-block parts car weighs 38xx#'s, and the 430 isn't that much heavier, if any, than the 312.
The motor has been on the dyno already too ....... but I can't give away all the information ........ :Brow:
I would have voted faster except for the difference in the trans and linkage between this car and the 64. No way a 3 on the tree is as fast as a toploader.
Let me go on record as saying that I voted the 13.40's If I don't have my game face on, I will be in the same boat as a lot of people....staring at the back end of that car! ou:
I'm with Dave yeah, what he said. I put the car in the 13.60 range mainly because of the trans/shifter. A top loader is no muncie, and the 3 on the tree linkage has to be a step below the top loader for sure. But don't all of you be fooled into thinking that an Engineer at Borg Warner didn't spend some time re-engineering that factory linkage :Brow: I'm sure that Brian has it working considerably better than when it left the factory, and furthermore, as good as a 3 on the tree can possibly get. I too was sworn to secrecy about the dyno #'s, but I will tell you that if this car had a c-6 auto it would be closer to the bottom of the 13's if not just a touch better :3gears:
:TU: Today I seen that bad boy at the show and the picture posted doesn`t even begin to explain the job Brian did on this car. Job well done, the car is jaw dropping.
Just got back from the Autorama, that car is amazing!!! Great job, I agree the pictures don't do it justice :TU:
Looks good from my laptop screen, can't wait to see it up close. 13.50's? Maybe faster if he's allowed to wear a fedora, wing-tips, and a thin tie.
more pics It was funny last night watching the judges looking over his car J1: "WTF is this ?" J2 "No clue." J1 "How are we going to judge it ?" J2 "Cleanliness of the owner ?" J1 "I plan to make a lot on "hmmm" noises. Is this correct for this car ?" J2 "Got me hanging...we better start writting something down. Are you up for a few games of hangman?"
holy bumpers, Batman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Car looks amazing!! :TU: How much does that back bumper weigh?????? Talk about traction advantage!!!!!!! :eek2: Congrats Brian.... And I doubt very much Casey that you had a Bud Lite in it before Brian did. :spank: Peter
