Brake pedal on my Riviera 1973 drop down, car braking slightly only full pedal release. I need new master cylinder repair kit, but rock auto have 2 type on repair kit, for Delco Moraine 1-1/8" bore diameter & OEM Master cylinder, how I understand what type on master cylinder kit fit to my Riviera?
    All brake system stock.

New master cylinders are cheap enough. Rebuild kits are $20. A new AC Delco master cylinder is $20. Why bother?

Jason show me where you're getting those Masters for $20 and I may buy 5. Also, be very very sure its the master so you don't unnecessarily purchase something. Be a mechanic, don't throw parts at it.

Im looking at Rock Auto under 1973 Riviera master cylinders

I agree with your sentiment. I'll be the first one to open an alternator up and replace the diode trio instead of just swapping an alternator. But sometimes, its just more time and cost effective to replace the assembly.

Occam's Razor: Simplest fix is usually the correct one

By that logic, a cracked brake line or air in the master would make sense. Check everything to make sure you are solving the right problem.

Yes, but shipping price to eastern Europe is more for master cylinder.

I just replaced mine, it was the Moraine type, it was $50.00. look on your power booster, it will say Delco Moraine on the front side closest to your fender if you have that type. I know the Moraine style has a large reservoir for the front brakes and a small one for the rear, I think the other type has both the same size but maybe someone can correct me?

Cause the quality of new stuff is not very good these days! I would rather rebuild my good old heavy duty part than buy some new part that is made with 1/3 less material and only lasts a short time!

I didn't realize your in eastern Europe. I can see how a rebuild kit would be easier and cheaper to ship. Yes, you have a Moraine cylinder. The parts book identifies the Moraine as having a gold cover, the Bendix having a black cover.

I agree with you for the most part Keith. I'll always try and fix an original part rather than replacing it whenever possible. New, name brand masters from Wagner, Bendix or AC Delco are generally pretty good though and Ive had good luck using them. The remanufactured masters on the other hand are pretty sketchy.

Be careful trying to rebuild. Your bore may be pitted and out of spec if honed and a sleeve job might be needed, big bucks!
