I need to replace the master on my 66 Lesabre. Got the new AC Delco one and the bore size appears to be different along with the design of where the rod clips into the rear. Is there a way to make this work? I looked up the part number and found NOS from a place called obsolete auto parts but nothing anywhere else. Or is rebuilding the original an option?
Most likely the same situation I have with my 64. There are two different masters, a Bendix one and a Moraine one. 1 short rod and one long rod, I want to say 1/4" vs 1.5" rod length and not interchangeable. Is you old master a deep hole or a shallow hole?
This is one option, http://whitepost.com/brake-sleeving-rebuilding-services/ Might you want to convert it to a dual system for safety?
Same issue on the Duals, a deep one and a shallow one, still goes back to what you have on your car now. Need either a single oem style or dual 67 or later for your car that is correct for the booster/rod that you have.
Can you tell anything from the rockauto listing? http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...319172,brake+&+wheel+hub,master+cylinder,1836
These are the only pictures that shows the back side, http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=496378&cc=1319172&jsn=12 http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=309038&cc=1319172&jsn=11 Looks pretty deep.
Rock auto is where I purchased the Delco part from. All the pictures from the various manufacturers look like they have the same style with a snap ring holding in the piston. The original on my car had a retainer ring held in by a spring clip. Otherwise it's identical to the original part.
The original on the car was a single line no booster style. Do the power and non power masters look identical?
Probably not, but they would most certainly be different internally. If you have manual brakes, you CANNOT use the power brake master cylinder, and Rock Auto only shows Power Brake Masters. That is your problem. If it was me, I would return the MC to Rock Auto and use the opportunity to convert to a dual MC and Power Brake Booster. Or, if you can't find a manual brake MC, send yours out to get resleeved/restored/rebuilt.
