Life and all its problems have kept me away from cars for a while but I promised my daughter we would do the last few legs of the Power Tour this year. After finishing up in Charlotte and heading back to Atlanta we decided to get off the interstate around Greenville SC and make the rest of the trip on back roads. While cruising down a 2 lane somewhere in rural GA we pass some sort of rat rod at a stop sign. As we cruise on I see him in my mirror picking off cars every time there's a dotted line. My heart starts to beat a little faster. He's trying to catch up to me and I'm sure its not to admire my car since the rat rod guys usually only throw insults at me for my "P.O.S late model". We're coming through a somewhat populated area but up ahead I see the road widens after a traffic light. I gotta make this work. There's just one suv in front of me and he's two more cars back. I pull it down out of OD. The light turns and as soon as I clear the intersection I jump around the suv now doing about 45. Immediately I hear him. He's coming around on the left. I let his front wheels get to my door and I hit it. He's got the momentum so he gets a half car on me but I reel him in fast. I've now got a half car on him and still slowly pulling away but I'm at about 90 now and see traffic in the distance, He's not letting off so I give it another second to prove my point then get on the brakes with plenty of shut down room. He goes flying by. I catch up in traffic and follow him for a bit then he turns off without a wave. I didn't see what he had for power but I gotta say, he did better than I expected from a rat rod although his car probably weighed less than half of mine. My daughter was psyched the rest of the way to Athens. It was a great way to finish our 1800 mile roadtrip together.
