Looking to see if there is experience with either of these set-ups . Need to make a change to a dana 60 or 12 bolt and will be doing it soon . Thanks for the input . Bret

I have a 12 bolt with all the goodies, if you want to save a lot of $$

Also have a whole rear suspension setup that will take you into bottom 9's with no issue

I put a Dana S60 with 3.54 under my '1964 Skylark, (behind the 401 and t-10 wide ratio).
Using the 35 S-Trac (Trak-lok Helical style, clutchless differential)

Don't mind a little Strange rear end, but just could not see myself contaminating a nice little boat with a Ford anchor.

It was easy process to discuss questions, order, it was easy to work out the delivery to my house at no extra cost, and to install.

It was on a nice pallet and had heavy cardboard box, pushed it down the driveway and into the garage, pulled the box off the pallet and pushed the pallet under the car and made it easy and stable, as well as elevated enought to get one upper and opposing lower control arms connected and hung it all by myself with a floor jack.

It uses the 1965 - 1987 GM upper control arm bushings (foun out 1964 were a one year off smaller bushing), and I used a slide hammer to whack 'em in place while the rear was bolted to the pallet. Much easier than trying to beat them using hammer love and not hitting at a skewed angle and cracking or dinging the upper bushing ears or trashing the bushing sleeves.

Still putting all the things that fell off the car when I turned all the fasters left back on, so I have only rolled it in and out of the garage a couple of times.

So, I cannot speak about anything for drivability for the next few weeks or so.

All in all, delivered with disc brakes installed and ready to bolt in, the price at $3000. was not bad.

In my younger days, and having access to shop equiment, I could have built my own, but doing as much as I have with everything else, I just did not need another big piece of work at building a complete rear and setting it up.

You can't go wrong with either one. The Dana60 gives you two full teeth contacted, and everything about it is very stout. A little heavier, but it's in the right spot. You will need a substantially shorter driveshaft due to the long pinion snout on them. You can get them with 35-spline axles and a verity of units for it,as well as a spool. Check on unit availability for 40-spline.
There are also plenty of people running a modern 12-bolt Chevy, like what Moser & Strange makes. You still have a good variety of units available for 33-spline,which is pretty good for most. There are some 35-spline units available, but limited. I have a 35-spline Detroit Locker and a 35-spline Wave-Lock. This is lighter than a Dana60,so a little less rotational weight. Just get a modern housing with the updated geometry. The OEM ones are good for restos.
