No, I wouldn’t know one Flowmaster from another. They sound raspy to me whenever I realize I am listening to them.
They all sounded about the same to me, too. They should have revved the motor up to about 2500 and held it there so we could hear the drone!
Funny thing with drone and flowmasters. When I got the green car back in '99 I put 2.5" duals and flowmaster 40's with chevelle ss tips (don't shoot me, I was 16 and didnt know any better. Haha). Under cruising "load" those buggers droned pretty good. Hence why when I redid the car all these years later I initially went with magnaflows. But when I decided the sound wasnt for me and wanted that 16 year old nostalgia back, I went with the super 44's (summit copies actually) and they drone little if at all. With tail pipes or with just turn downs, the volume changed but they really dont drone. I don't know a good reason why, but I was concerned and subsequently pleasantly surprised when they didnt drone hardly at all. There may be a little, and I do mean little amount, but it's tough to tell with road and wind noise.
It's interesting to see dyno results of various performance mufflers, most I have seen show at most two - three % difference and that being in the middle RPM range, not max HP. I have always preferred Dynomax super turbo's since they seem to give off that classic muscle car tone without the drone noise inside. I absolutely love my TA Performance 3" exhaust!
Dynomax all the way! Flow master doesn’t flow nearly as well. http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/flowmaster-vs-dynomax.322218/
These are Flowtech Afterburners. This video was taken right after I had the exhaust done back around 2000 I think. 2.25" pipes, stock engine. Sorry about the quality, was taken on a hand me down Sony CCD-V110 circa early 80's. Wish the car still looked that good.
