Happy Birthday to my Skylark :Brow:

I found a guy pretty close to me with a 340-4v manifold for sale for a decent price and he's throwing the carb that came with it.
Based on what I can could see it looks like an Carter AFB

Obviously needs a rebuild, is it worth my time/money to fix this one, or should I find another core? That's the only picture I have, haven't seen it in person yet.
Or is there a better 4bbl out there you all would suggest for a basicly stock 340-2v with dual exhaust as the only mod, after I swap to the 4v?

Well, with a 2 month old daughter it's been tought to get any major work done on the skylark, but I found some used valve covers for $25 on ebay, and although they need to be re-painted, they still look better than the old ones I had, so I'll get those blasted and repainted further down the road.

Also replaced the rubber bungee with a repop battery hold down. I think the battery I have is a lot shorter than it's meant to be, I had to put in a riser to get the bolt to lock down on top in the proper hole in the radiator support

Bought a Star Wars air cleaner from a forum member, right now I'm still running the 2bbl Carb as I collect the parts for the 4bbl swap, so it's resting on the 2bb base and I had to create a longer threaded section, but compared to how I purchased the skylark looks a lot better!

Well, a lot has changed since i got this car. I'm throughly addicted to Buicks!

I ended up purchasing a 1966 4-dr hardtop Skylark roller that is super solid with very very minimal surface rust, I'll be swapping the engine and trans from my '67 over to that and parting out the '67. i wish I could keep it but lack of a covered storage space for two cars, the threat of living in them by my wife, and needing some extra cash means I need to.

I'll post some pictures of the "new" '66 later tonight.

    Re: My 1966 Buick Skylark

In the glove box of the '66 I found a small spiral note book with the dates and type of service done to the car dating back to 1964! (They owned a '64 Buick, then traded I'm assuming for a '67) so from 1967-1996 I have a record of all service done to the car!

I'm the 4th owner I'm assuming as the guy I purchased it from, bought it from a kid in Wisconsin, who bought it from the original owner.
Sadly the guy prior to me yanked out the 300ci and ST300 and sold it to someone in New York. but its still a cool little piece of the cars history.
here's a link to my album with pictures. For a Midwestern car with over 90000 miles it's in great shape.

I haven't had a chance to write down the cowl tag codes but it has some neat options that you can see so far.

    driver's side manual remote mirror
what looks like a coat hangerfold down arm mounted just to the right of the speaker grill
I like the bench seat with fold down arm rest
it's an F-F, or Blue Mist paint code very sharp color!
has a mismatched passenger side mirror with a more rectangular base

Yea, only took 3-days to finally have it cut down.
Well i thought of just towing the whole thing to a junk yard but I only rented the dolly for a day, and the scrap yard wasn't too far away, three truck loads is what it took.

I don't think I ever want to part out a car again, learned a lot of stuff this weekend. Had some fun too, but glad it's done and the '66 is home, Drives like a dream!

SSSHHHHHH! That's how rumors start.

It definately wasn't my first rodeo on stripping a 100% legal plated ................vin plated car!

I most likely won't be stripping too many more cars out.

Did you ever find the four barrel you were looking for?

I have a rebuilt, only run a couple of times Carter AFB that was taken off a 66 340. I paid $280 to have it totally rebuilt by a firm in Jacksonville, Fl.

If you are interested, I can get the numbers off of it and hopefully some photos.

I went with a Edelbrock because I thought the Carter was bad, turned out it was the intake that was bad, so there is nothing wrong with the carb.

I have a 4-bbl 340 manifold and AFB carb off a 66' 340 sitting down in the basement, havn't cleaned up either yet, wanted to finish this first. the 2-bbl on it now needs a rebuild, I might just see if I can make it through the summer before I worry about anything.

less than a week after we finished the swap, i got it cleaned up intime for a local car show. 2012 Gears & Ears in Yorkville.
I saw one 70-71-72 Skylark (i can't tell the difference yet) with a GSX spoiler and stripes, owner wasn't around to talk to, saw lots of boattail rivs (they seem to be very popular around here) and quite a few old 50's and 40's buick hot rods.

My buddy's '79 Ford Bronco is in the background with a 429 or 460 swapped in (we're not sure since the only way to tell is to drop the oil pan or check how much stroke the pistons have.)

Was a great day, and I had a lot of people asking about my Buick.

thanks!, i like the look of those rallys as well. but the previous owner put chevy caps on them. I've got other more important things to spend money on, but I hope to change them someday.
