Mock up. Fitting trans and building a serpentine system.

It fits fine. Had slight clearance issue with passenger side exhaust manifold and had to cut out and box frame for the oil filter. I used the frame brackets from the 74 regal the motor came out of and they layed in like it was meant to be.

The low mileage regal I killed for the motor and a few other parts. The rest went to a friend that wants the floor pan out of it, which are surprisingly solid.

Sometimes it's nothing but Buicks around here. My GS in the back, the 74 455 for the shop truck on the bench and on the stand a customers 455 I'm building for his 71 GS clone.

Are you running the tbi computer ?

Yes. It's a combination of 454,350and 4.3 tbi and vortec parts. Guess which one donated the computer. ..or should I say that will run with the 455. It could use a tune but I'm not going to do that. When I get the time to paint the truck I'll swap to an aftermarket tbi system I have.

I'm guessing your using the bigger injectors of the 454. So my guess is the 454 computer???? I like your project. Drop some more jewels

454 throttle body and adapter. The early 454 tbi used the carb intake with an adapter for the tbi so that part was easy. The truck came with a 350 tbi/nv4500 with external slave originally, so the truck was setup for trans and I kept the engine harness,so those 2 were easy also. I just used an adapter for the trans to put it behind the 455. I had the ball stud hole in the bell milled to correct for the thickness of the adapter . I pulled the radiator, shroud and hydra boost from a 93 1 ton that came with a diesel and modified shroud to center with the fan. Modified the 455 hei for the tbi module which I external mounted. The lengthen or short wires as necessary. Installed a knock sensor in the bell area of block altough I have 1 in an unused motor mount hole also which is currently connected with no noticeable change from other location. What was the most difficult was finding the right combination of parts and pulleys to setup the serpentine drive using vortec brackets,I made adapters to bolt them to the heads. And finding a computer that would run it satisfactory was a little bit of an issue. When I originally thought of this I was thinking of using the thm 400 that's original to the 455 and ordered a 454/400 tbi computer, well that computer was a waste of money as it won't run worth a dam, so I put the 350/nv4500 computer in and that was a no go. So I had one more computer left so I tried it and it turned out to be the one. That computer is a reman from Napa that I pulled from a 91 s10 4x4 700r4 ,don't know if it's actually for it or not but that's where I got it.

What a combination, I wouldn't know where to begin . So did you just try different computers and see how they ran?

Yes and no. I've built quite a few Chevy tbi combos over the years ,they usually aren't to picky if you don't try to go with a hot cam. I found a 454 computer and thought it would be a good match but it is not. So far the 90ish 4.3 and 5.7 computers have been the best in most cases. You probably wouldn't believe some of the builds/combinations I've done...if only I had the time and money to build all the others.
