Heres my 70 model that i am currently gutting and preparing to be a street legal racecar. Current plan is for this car to be getting a 950+hp turbocharged 350. Also a switch pitch turbo 400 or a fixed pitch 3500 stall (I can't decide), so i will compete in the footbreak class. (built by Jim Burek) 4.10 gears with Moser engineering axles and spool, fiberglass fenders, fiberglass hood, fiberglass trunk lid, lexan windows, 10-point roll cage, and a PARACHUTE! It is a post car, it is kind of an oddity (I think). I am going to try to do all of the body work myself, to save some money. The first thing i have to do bodywise is undo what the previous owners have done. This is a long term project. (two to three years hopefully) :3gears:
Started getting in some parts for the car today. Fuel cell, seat, battery disconnect switch, and some gauges. This is just the start to a ton of money that is going to be spent on this car. BTW this is going to be the first time for me to install a fuel cell, do i have to cut a big hole in the floor for the sump?o No: I was thinking about just elevating it in the trunk a little bit so that I wont have to cut a big hole in the floor.
Been scraping the years of road grime and oil/transmission fluid from the bottom of the car, and theres at least 20 lbs of crud build up. It's hard work, but when im done, its gonna look great. And taking off 20lbs just by scrubbing and scraping the bottom of the car is awesome.
Also I started painting the trunk pan. Not too worried about appearing stock, so i used a gloss grey rustoleum paint.
Tyler, no need to cut the trunk. I built a mount for the cell in the Century. I am at work right now, but when I get home, I'll post a couple of pics of what I fabbed up. Greg
I was planning on not cutting into the trunk. Saw a couple of set ups that I liked on google and on the turbobuick.com website. Thanks in advance for the pictures.
I started sanding the paint off the car, but ran into some trouble. The sander i have is not really built to strip the paint off of a car, its more of a finish sander, so i'm going to have to get an angle grinder or something before i can do anymore work. I was kinda upset, because i am getting all sorts of stuff in from Summit.
Can't tell if anybody is interested, I will just use this thread so I can look back and see what all I did on the car... Bodywork is being done now, I don't have enough money to spend on anything else. Still working on scraping all the crud from the bottom of the car. It's alot of work getting all of the grease off.
If you are planning that much HP you may want to consider a better set of gauges to keep an eye on things. Something with a bigger face. This is what my brother and I did on our car.
I'm going to mount the guages right in front of me so I can see them. I took out the stock instrument cluster.
I still wouldn't trust a 700hp mill to a set of summit entry level gauges. Probably better places to cut corners. Just my $.02 :beers2:
What would you recommend? I thought that summit pretty much just copied other brands, so they would be ok.o No:
Something like Autometer Sport-Comp. Around $40-$50 each. They have everything you would need. Oil press, temp, oil temp, boost, etc. And yes Summit does have someone else make all their stuff. Those gauges are probably made by autometer or Sun but just like everything else there is a entry level and a top of the line.
