This is my 1971 GS 455 4 speed non-stage car. It is one of 103 built in 1971. I purchased the car in December of 1995. It had hail damage and rust around the rear window, but ran great. It was my only mode of transportation of 7 months. I started what was to be a 'nice paint job" in October of 1996. One thing lead to another...... 20 months and a whole bunch of dollars later it was finished. I pulled the engine, trans, exhaust, fuel tank and interior from the car. I had the entire car media blasted, both sides of all the metal that could be reached. The rust was repairedand the car was repainted. The car was originally white, however the colors that were stripped off were, from top to bottom, white, red, silver and white. A friend suggested the GSX paint scheme, the car was non numbers matching so originality was not a concern. The GSX paint scheme was applied, by hand taping, using the specifications in the GS handbook.
The engine was freshened up, the stage one heads were ported and put back on. I took the car home in march of 1998 as a roller with only the engine and transmission back in. No engine wiring, exhaust or interior.
The car was originally a bench seat, no air car. When I purchased it it had 73-77 bucket seats in it. I found a no armrest bench seat for it, as it had the no frills interior, yes the one with a dome light, not sail panel lights.
The car was finished ( as finished as they ever are) July 3rd 1998, at 1 pm. I took it to a local show and won my class at 4 pm. Pretty coo.
I enjoyed the car for the next 6 years, going to car shows, racing and and just driving it. It went 12.75 at 107 with the 4 speed and a 3.31 gear.
In March 2004 the car suffered an engine fire. The damage was substancial. Haggerty paid up in fine fashion. Before I could get the car finished I had to sell it to finance Graduate School for myself. That happened in December of 2005. I had kept in touch with the buyer, and was able to buy the car back in April of 2007. Still not done. As the pictures show, I smoothed the firewall and painted it white. I have added aftermarket AC as well, since I am getting older and fatter. I am putting it back together to drive and drive like a rental. The other guy built the engine and put a T10 in it. The engine is just a nice street 455. I do anticipate addition of the a blue bottle, just for extra juice. My hope is to have it running before I graduate from grad school which is december of 2008.
It's kinda ironic. The first time I built this car I was working on my first nursing degree, now I am building the car again, as I am working on another degree.
The car did have drag lites, but they are gone. Good, I was looking for a reason to put the stock wheels back on it.

Thanks for taking time to read my story and look at my car-Allen
