As soon as I get enough posts to put some pictures up I'll have them. Right now I'm just sanding off all the primer on my car to find out what's under there. Waiting on my current project to sell before I can start dumping much money into her.
A few questions I guess I can start out with. 1st, the HVAC has been completely ripped out in my car. Can anybody tell me what I'll need to get off a parts car to get the heater/vents to work again and what years will interchange? 2nd, while driving home in my car the temperature would randomly spike very high for a few minutes then die back down. I'm thinking it's a stuck thermostat as the car has been sitting for about 8 years, but is there another issue it could be that's common to these cars?
I hopefully have a guy buying my other project tomorrow morning and if he does I should have 700 or so dollars to put into the lark. My current shopping list is as follows: New engine gaskets(several leaks right now), thermostat, HVAC, trunk pan(only rusted through part of the car), and I want a bench seat in the front again(has cheap racing seats right now), carpet, and probably a rattle can paint job so it's not sitting in primer through the winter. Think it can be done for $700?
Well spent some time in a junkyard today. Got a bench seat, and an entire HVAC system. A/C and everything for $175. Not a bad day at all. Anybody know the best way to fix rips in vinyl?
Well, due to a stint of bad weather and a lot of school work I haven't been able to get much done but here's the last couple weeks worth of work. After a failed attempt to use paint stripper Decided to sand blast instead Hopefully I'll have some more time this next week to finish up blasting it.
nice looking project... wishing you luck.. edited this pic, thought you might like.... Send me some larger photos to lacey_803@arvig.net and I'll play around with them.... feel free to send me progress pics, I like all stages of resto. Dave
Well, between work and school and another few bouts of bad weather not a lot has happened on my car again it may end up going into storage for the winter, we'll see. I was wondering however, is there anywhere that sells the chrome trim that goes around the wheel wells? I can't seem to find it anywhere.
good luck with the project - I am all too familair on how things can get pushed back - just don't discouraged and keep up goal in site... I purchased wheel well mouldings off of Ebay - 3 of the 4 were nice. So i waited and found the 4th that I needed - but even then I still have a lot of polishing to do. I am not aware of a repro at this time, but maybe someone else will chime in.. I will tell you to becareful when buying off of EBAY. I have had both good and bad dealings and lately it seems that people are not disclosing the full truth in listings and taking advantage of the fact that parts are hard to find so that drives up the cost for beat up items... "Price = Demand" Maybe someone on this site can help you out - seems to be a lot of nice folks here. :beer
Well, the weather here is improving slightly so it is time for my car and activity here to come out of hibernation. Despite having fairly good weather almost every day I've had off has been storming so not a lot has been done. Nearly done sand blasting finally though. Stumbled across some body issue in both the A and C pillars, looks like the guy welded on a roof panel awhile back but did a pretty horrid job on it and it's been rusting through.
Now for the much better news. I was hoping to buy a house this summer but can't get approved so some of the money I was so good about saving for a down payment. I've calculated out everything I need to finish my car and left $500 for stuff to go wrong which leaves me another 2000ish maybe more to spend. Now, how do I spend this cash?!? Things I definitely want: Intake, new air cleaner, dropping the rear gears. Now I have some questions on whether or not some of the parts I've seen are worth the cash. Handling kit with front/rear sway bars and trailing arms and shift kits. Even if I get all that I should still have 200-600 left. What would you spend the money on?
And one last question, I know the car already has aftermarket shocks in the back but can't tell if it's been lowered. What is the stock ride height and where should it be measured?
Looking good! Keep up the progress! Good to see you ripping those cheap seats out. You will find my traffic (answers) if you post your questions relating to your suspension plans in "the whoa and sway."
Well finally got a few hour of sun and time today, something that hasn't happened in quite awhile. Finally got done with the sandblasting, still needs quite a bit of sanding and some body work. Forgot to get some better pics of it but both the A pillars and C pillars have some rust issues at the top that's going to be a PITA to fix. Such is the joy of project cars though I guess. Anybody have any experience fiberglassing over metal and know any tips/tricks?
Post an ad in the Parts Wanted section- you'll find them. Good luck with your project. My first brand new car in 1972 was a 72 Skylark Custom w/ bucket seats and a 350/4. I was a senior in college and off to the Air Force after graduation. Fun car.
