Very similar to mine. I just picked up a '72 skylark 350 sport coupe.

Did you sandblast the whole body?

Yeah, took forever. I only have a small compressor so I spent about 2 minutes waiting for it to charge up for every minute I spend blasting. Still was a lot easier than sanding the whole thing though.

Been awhile since I updated this. Not a ton of progress but some pics of my recent work.

Cleaned up the trunk and floor some

and the front end has been pulled apart so I can start tearing into the motor to replace a bunch of leaky seals and 10 yrs of built up crud.

Well, got the heads off tonight finally. If something was wrong with the head gaskets would I be able to see it? Like a crack or something? Because they look fine to me.

So is there anything I should be checking/looking at too try and determine if/where a problem is?

EDIT: Guess I should specify that I'm pulling the heads off because I was getting a bunch of air through my cooling system and overheating really bad, forgot that I put that in a seperate thread

Also, why are some of the valves completely white?

Wow, no idea why that first image is so big, sorry. I sized it down but it's still showing huge.

New radiator, question. I know the two threaded holes are for the trans cooler but what are the other two plugs on it for?

As soon as my back ordered head bolts get in I can start reassembly and actually make some progress

Radiator guess, maybe an oil cooler connection, but hoepfully someone will chime in that actually knows..

Isn't it great when the shipping man rolls up with boxes of goodies - UPS and Fed EX are on a first name basis with me and my dogs.. if that tells you how much stuff I've been ordering.:dollar: :dollar: Money well spent though....

How did you set the timing on the car? Sounds like a lag in the throttle response (Could be sound quality on computer speakers). I would suggest reading the power timing thread and making the adjustments that it mentions.

Well when I first had it running I was using a timing light, it sounded like garbage, barely idled, wouldn't rev at all. A couple days ago my timing light died so I figured I was SOL for a awhile. But then I noticed I had my #5 and #7 spark plug wires switched around. Switched them back, re did the initial timing in the service manual and it fired right up. As soon as I get a timing light I can hopefully get it tuned in significantly better. Right now it's just timed by ear.

It does sound significantly better than the recordings do but it definitely needs tuned more, just waiting on cash for a new timing light.
