I dont really know why im typing this...but...my dog Jake has to be put down tomorrow....He is not just my dog, but my best friend...im crying as i type this, as is my family..but for some reason i want you all to know that the world is losing the best dog ever. He is an 18 year old Jack Russel Terrier and the time has come for him. His heart is failing and medicine is not longer helping. We dont want him to suffer so the decision has been made.
He lived a LONG healthy life and a spoiled one at that. I can remember him in Arizona, i was about 5 then, me and him in our ghetto little pool in the front yard, he would go crazy for the hose. Everytime you sprayed it he wanted to attack it.
I remember him in Alaska. He hated that snow. When it came down, just about everyday it seemed, he would bite it as it came down. He would hop through the snow like a bunny in his little booties because he didnt like to be submerged in it. My parents tell me that he was never in a cage when we traveled, always sittin up next to me in the back seat. I have so many memories of Jake. I will miss him dearly and tomorrow will be an ever worse day i am sure. He is 18 and so am i, he has been there my entire life and is like my second brother. I cant say enough about him. Thank you for listening to my story, you all are like my other family. Please pray that my dog has a safe journey to doggie heaven and please pray for my family's sake. :ball:

Here he is a few days ago, i dont have any pics of him on hand as a pup.

My heart goes out to you and your family! My work is training dogs. I raise Labs and I have been in your shoes 3 X in my life. Once at your age with Thor, once with Bear and with Fire at 5 months. It lets you Know what Love is. Peace

Very sorry Brian. I wish him a safe journey straight up.

Iwent through that myself. Reese is in most of my photos growing up. Once he was gone, I never got another. Hurts too much.

I have been in your shoes before.
Princess was a half huskie half collie mix. When I was a young-en, we would ride her around for fun. She never complained and followed us kids everywhere we went. We would go to the store, and she would wait outside for us. One day while riding our bikes she was hit by a car. It split her open from sternum to pelvis. I cried and held her while my sister went and got help. She was 17 years old. I still think of her everyday.
Make sure you take your time and tell him goodbye. The pain will ease over the years, but it will never go away.

Time heals but that doesn't mean that you ever forget. Sorry you and your family have to make such a hard decision. Just try and remember how much joy your little buddy brought to all of you and how much joy your family brought to him. Love works both ways but only the human can express it in words.

I am sorry to hear about your dog.
I had a two great golden retrievers that were pups together. One had a stroke when he was about 12, he came around, but then he ended up having another stroke and died. The female lived a few years longer, but she was getting to the point where she wasn't seeing or hearing well and would look lost at times. Her time was short. One night she got out of the house and some kid driving to fast hit her out in front of the house. The only good to the way either one of them died is that I didn't have to make the choice to put them down. Those dogs lived on the Washington coast, down in Oregon, Montana and Idaho with the wife and I. They went boating, camping and playing in the woods and on vacation with us.
Life will go on, and right now I've got four dogs and one of them is laying on my feet as I type.
Take care and remember that what you are going to do to the dog is what has to be done. It's better than letting the dog suffer. Doesn't make it any easier, but it's what needs to be done.

Sorry for your loss.I think we all have been there and it's tough. I am adding a pic to this because even though I will never forget my pastbeloved dogs, I always find myself getting attached to another. There is not a more true love than that of a good dog. We now have 2 Chocolate labs Bailey and Daisy. Bailey is Daisy's mother.

PS Try locking your dog and your girlfriend/wife in the trunk of your car and leave. Come back in 1 hour and see who is glad to see you. I dont know where I heard this but it's funny. After you have had some time you'll find that that companionship of a dog is something you cannot live without.

Thank you all for the kind words. He moved on to a better place at 9 o'clock this morning. My mom and dad took him there. Saying goodbye was the hardest thing i have ever had to do. My brother, sister, and I said our goodbyes early this morning and he was off....i wish i could have said more. There is so much to say. I loved him dearly and will never forget him. He has literally been by my side my entire life. Tonight we sat down as a family and watched old home videos of when he was a pup to bring back some of those cherished memories when i was very little, before my brother and sister.
My mom took it the hardest, as it was technically her dog as it was always attached to her and protected her from anyone. I have only seen my dad cry twice in my life, when his dad died and when he gave us the news about Jake. Everyone took it hard and stayed home. After watching the videos, it showed how Jake's spots were completely black, as in the picture they are faded almost completely white.

This has been the hardest day in my 18 years of living.

    Jake
