I'm trying to get my car shipped to me. I'm trying to get some opinions. I have a uship bid on it for $618. A guy i know said he would do it tomorrow for $600. We ain't never hung out, but I would stop and shoot the **** with him if I saw him passing by, what do you guys think

IMO, for the $18 more I'd go with an insured professional, if something happened in transit you never know what could happen with settling with an acquaintance, just my thoughts though :)

He is going to use a car dolly.

What kind of car? To haul a rear drive he'll have to pull the driveshaft if its an auto. I'd go with the shipper and a car trailer myself.

Yep, automatic he'll have to pull the driveshaft or you'll burn up the pump and trans. Even if it's a manual and he can just put it in neutral, consider: Do you know the car well enough to have it towed with the rear wheels on the ground? What about the differential and wheel bearing condition? Tire condition?

If your buddy had a open car hauler Id say go forit. but not on a car dolly.

Pay the extra $18 and have a professional do it. Good intentions from people with whom you have a passing acquaintance mean zilch when the car gets even slightly damaged. Nothing like having a friend hop into your car to move it a few feet (when you told him "no"), and having a few thousand bucks worth of damage done. Ask me how I know.

Make sure it is an experienced driver from uship. Lots of rookies/inexperienced drivers there.

Well you guys were right. I let my buddy do it and my car was rear ended by a semi truck. It went from paint shop to wrecked. It was on a trailer

On the + side, you know the trucking company was at fault and they have to have good insurance. You'll either get your car fixed better than it was or get the funds to buy another car.

Oh man, that sucks! Sorry to hear. Did the other driver and your buddy have insurance to cover it? Was this the purple car you had painted?

That sucks. I hope the at fault trucking company handles the situation without you having to resort to using lawyers. I'd insist on the same shop, that painted it, doing the repairs. Your buddy should NOT say a word about being paid to get your car just to save both of you possible BS from the trucking company, or cops.

He said the trucking company said they were going to fix everything. We will see how that goes. He said the truck driver fell asleep. The truck driver didn't even know he hit my car by the time he work up my car and trailer had broke of the hatch and was in the field. Yes it was the plum crazy and tuxedo black skylark.

Well, at least you know the body guy, and it looked to me like he knows what he's doing. Sounds like the truck driver already admitted fault. Hopefully you're in the clear as good as it sounds. Good luck! (I mean that sincerely).

Just be careful. Don't sign off on anything until the car, etc. is repaired to your satisfaction and it drives like it did before.

Yes, in fact take a couple of people with you when they say that they are done, so maybe something doesn't get missed. I also think it would be a good idea to go take pictures before the body work even starts, just to be on the safe side.
