Alright looks good. I was worried about putting the Halo on and keeping the roof the same color and not changing it to something else but I think it breaks up the roof good enough without having a two tone. Thanks for the pics.

Update: Well I keep changing everything over to new and now the whole front end is new I'm just waiting on a disc conversion to finish the front end. Still need to hook up the fuel pump and reg, run fuel and brake lines, attach power steering pump and alternater, MSD ignition, and then I can start it. Need to finish putting in the new tilt steeing column but the Rivera it came out of the guy said it would bolt right in but it doesn't of course. It's way to short like their should be a knuckle and a lower shaft. Gotta figure that one out. Transmission mount to finish installing that, cut a whole in the floor and add the floor ratchet shift, rear shocks and springs, rug and just button stuff up putting the trunk, fenders and hood back on for paint. My buddy say's a realistic time to finish this will be tghe end of July, I was thinking mid June. His answer is so disappointing and I hope he is wrong. I'll miss the whole season! Does this sound like 2.5 more month's?

Here are some updated pics of my 65 progress. Waiting for a friend to run the front brakelines to the calipers. Once that is done I can hook up the floor shifter and yard drive it and get it ready for soda blasting.

That gold has some serious pop to it. I hope you have a good pair of sunglasses:bglasses:

It's a PPG Candy Gold. Someone has a picture of a 65 in a candy gold by House of Kolor and I loved it so not to copy to bad I used PPG and changed the shade a bit. Hopefully it will be painted by March.

Share that picture with us. I have yet to decide on a color for my car, although daughter insists that I leave it black.

So this year not much progress. Got motor done and tuned in on a dyno the other day. Found powersteering line that works with setup so now tomorrow I'll be able to drive without feeling like a workout. Sprayed the outside flat black so it wouldn't be all different colors as I'll now paint it this winter with the PPG Candy Gold paint I bought last year. I'm gonna throw front bumper on tomorrow and post some more pics of that. Just ordered a Eaton Posi unit and 373 gears from Summit that will probally go in next week at some point. Found to have all sorts of ground problems and wire breaks so bought a complete Painless Wiring kit with 12 fuse box and all the wires already attached and labeled, that will be over the next few days. As it sit's I'm now into the car for $15k and estimate about another $7-$9k to finish.
I'll post more pics over the next few weeks.

Thanks for sharing (Re: 65 Skylark project's progress)

Dear mjkinga and V-8 Buick members,

    Thanks for the progess report.

We all do what we can. You just can't push on a rope!

Ya'know, it just don't add up. . . . Starting from scratch and buying all the tools and materials, you can build a 1/25 scale car for less than $100. So a full scale should cost only $2500 - right?

Oh well, so much for higher math!!

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

Back on the project. Drivetrain is finally complete and runs great. Back to body. Just had it soda blasted and picked up yesterday. Drove it down to body shop for candy gold paint. Car has a great body under all the paint as you will see in pics below. I asked body shop to send pics as they go along. Ordering an entire interior today from OPGI so car should look completely new. Entire interior about $3k from OPGI. Without body shop price this damn car has me shelling out $19,600. Figure about another $10k to finish up.

Thanks for keeping us posted! (Re: 65 Skylark project's progress)

Thanks mjkinga for keeping us posted on your progress!!

Sorry to report that these classics cost much more than they are worth to restore and maintain. It truly has to be a labor of love. :)

I'm very much caught in the same predicament!

    Cheers, Edouard :beer

Well I was gonna put the moldings down the side but I realized I dont have the front fender ones then I tried to but mouldings for the car and no one makes them for the 65. So I'm having the shop fill the holes in. Filling in the hood emblem hole, already filled the antenna hole and the lower sils below the doors. Oh yeah I wasn't really in love with the Halo ring so Im having those knobs cut off and filled also. I am keeping the sail emblems, trunk and buick on the hood. I went back and forth about the birds on the fenders and decided to keep those too. I wish they sold parts for this car and I would keep more.

    mjkinga,
Just ran across thread on your restoration, looking nice, you have done some pretty cool stuff. Keep us posted. I am working on a '64, just getting started. You mentioned needing trim parts, have you posted on the board in parts wanted? A lot of stuff is available as some of these guys have been parting out cars and collecting for many years. They will treat you right too. I have also found a bunch of stuff through Hemming's ads and e bay. Be careful on e bay, some people list stuff incorrectly, so you have to know your parts. Also board guys are a wealth of information. Good luck on future progress.:TU:

After the recent sodablasting I have taken it to a friend that owes me money (the best kind) and he is a body man full time. He's cleaning the car up and has recently sealed it. Here are some pics as of a few days ago. He say's it will be painted within the first two weeks of August. Hope he sticks to it. He also removed the rear glass and repaired the channel.

Had a friend paint the car do not sure. But then after more body work he sprayed again with a gray as you can see. Then three stage paint. Base, three coats of Candy and five coats of clear. Putting trim on this week and hopefully wheels. Have an entire new white interior but prob not going in until winter.
