I'm not knocking your car, but every time I look at it, the Christmas song "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" runs through my head. You know the part, sing it with me......" you can even say it glows"............. Man is that paint bright. :eek2:

the car is about 98% finished, figured out that the high rpm thing was the throttle return spring was getting stuck. its still backfiring through the exhaust a little, but not as bad since i got rid of a few exhaust leaks. if i could figure out the brake problem i would be able to drive the car. im thinking maybe since i went from drum to disc rear brakes maybe i need a bigger master cylinder and proportining valve?
i picked up a center console from a 2000-2002 camaro/firebird. i was gonna paint it tan, but thinking of maybe leaving it grey (it matches the dash). what do you guys think? i really dig the matching "Momo" carbon fibre shifter handle and steering wheel to go with the momo pedals

Finally got to drive the car! i got the brakes to work well enough to drive the car, but they are still not perfect. i may have got rid of the popping sound (backfiring). hoping to put some miles on it this week. should have some pictures soon.

Its a sherwin williams color i believe it is called "rusty metallic" i tried to get something close to the original color of my car which was called "bittersweet" a buick only color which was a rare option going back to the GS days. i love the color, it looks unbelievable in the sunlight.

Well it started in may of '09, and is finally done! I first thought it would take about 2 years so i guess i finished about 10 months ahead of schedule. bad news is i was about 2000 over budget. but i am very happy with the outcome. so in a nutshell here are the upgrades listed from front to back...

added newer "Halo" style halogen headlights:

Dual electric fans from a 2000 dodge intrepid:

Dual piston aluminum front disc brakes, rear disc brakes:

Covans classic carbon fibre gage cluster:

Bucket seats and console from a 2002 Camaro:

    New carpet with heatshield insulation:

and of course the tko600 5 speed.
    [IMG][/IMG]

there are alot of smaller upgrades like a complete rewire of the car with a 21 circuit new style fuse block, upgraded soundsystem.

    And the finished product

Dan, your Skylark turned out great! Glad you decided to go with a tan color on the console. You have given the rest of us alot of inspiration with your project. Now get out there and enjoy it before the snow start falling!
    Later, Randy

thanks! ive been drivint the hell out of it, got about 400 miles on it already. it drives amazing with the 5 speed manual, i can easily keep up with traffic, and even have to down shift going up hills at 70 mph because the gearing is sooo low. i have been expecting bugs galore, but really haven't had any. itts like having a new car, even has a new car smell. a few things i need to still do, is update the dome light (put in the passanger side switch, and wire it like a new car with theater style lighting). and the stero is weak, going to update it too. and finish installing the remote trunk popper.

What gearing are you running? I thought you said you had 3.73? I could effortlessly climb 6% grades in 5th at 70mph when I ran 3.23's (Q-jet and 4-pin HEI at the time with an isky .454 lift cam), and even now I pull ~10inHg vacuum (118 cam, EFI) with 3.70 gears at 70mph in O/D climbing the same grade.

yes, im running 373's. it just feels sluggish climbing steep hills.

I don't know what cam you are running, so maybe it's the low end there. Is that a single plane intake (SP1?)? With the carb that may be it too, I had a performer under the Q-jet. Now that you are driving it, play with the tune! Timing anyways :TU:

Oh and congrats on driving it! The interior looks awesome, I may have to steal that console swap idea if I ever switch to bucket seats.

didn't think of the SP (single plane) intake, and i think my 1050 is a little overkill , i am thinkng of switching to fuel injection also, eventually.

Been doing some small chores on the buick. Added a led dome light from classic industries along with a passenger side switch and theather style relay so the light slowly turns off after the door is closed (like the newer cars). also finally recieved front lowe kick panels also from classic. they are nice pieces, but are made of ABS plastic instead of vinyl so they are a pain to install especially with the roll bars in the way. they come with a set of pioneer 6&1/2 speakers already installed

I got mine from Classic industries during their %20 off sale. I used their "OER" authorizes molded carpet. part # 53149837 (i think)
