i have been trying to get ahold of a reasonably priced n25 bumper for awhile.....giving up.
I am wondering about the conversion options.
I saw in another thread rusty davenport on this board offers this service....but his inbox is full.
I also thought the parts place offered this service.....but could not find it on their site.

I searched the forum and could not find a concise thread on it....so here it goes:

    -who currently offers this service?
-is the conversion end product exactly like the OEM version?
-does the bumper have to be rechromed afterward or can the existing chrome be saved?
    -what is the cost?

    Thx.

    Eric,
I can answer a few of your questions.

-who currently offers this service? I do not know about now but I had Rusty do one for me several years ago.
-is the conversion end product exactly like the OEM version? It is .very close to oem
-does the bumper have to be rechromed afterward or can the existing chrome be saved? The bumper does have to be rechromed if stamped.
-what is the cost? I do not remember the cost, somewhere around a few hundred.

I hope this helps a little.

I had my 1970 bumper converted 6 years ago. At that time, Rusty charged me 275.00 for the conversion, and shipping the bumper to Tri City Plating in Tennessee. Tri City charged me 545.00 for the plating and shipping to me. These are 2008 prices. I used tips I got from Wheelz on the board, first for my 2 1/2" system, and then the 3" pipes I have now. They were 325.00/pr It took some work to get the tips right, but I absolutely love this Mod even though it is not correct for my 70:grin: It's a costly modification all in all, but it looks awesome IMO.

Rusty did mine as well. I have a 72 that I would sell for 400.00 and shipping straight but needs rechromed I have a set of 3 inch tips as well from Wheelz for an additional 300.00

I am still doing the conversions.Cost to convert your core $225.00 and bumper will need to be rechromed after the conversion. I have a few cores here and can sell you one converted with no core exchange for $325.00 plus shipping. ph me at 270 498-3801

I had Rusty do this one for my car. I had a N25 for the Wifes car but he was close to Tri City so I had him send the bumper there and then I would decide which would go on my car. After I received it I installed it on my Suncoupe. Fit and function is fine

I am very happy with mine. like I said, the only problem that gave me fits was getting the Wheelz tips to fit. The tips are different than the stock tips. They are bigger, and they taper, so as you move them out of the bumper, you run out of clearance. Then the tips tend to rattle and vibrate which is very annoying. Every N25 car I have ever seen looks a bit different. The amount of extension of the tips all vary, and a lot of them you see will be crooked to varying degrees. I tried every which way to clamp them on, but they would always move after awhile and rattle, very frustrating. Through trial and error, I finally arrived at the conclusion that the best thing to do is butt the bottom of the tips up against the bottom of the openings. I had an exhaust shop make me 2 sections of 3" pipe and fit them like that, bringing them out as much as possible. I also used sections of the thin chrome plastic door edge molding you can find in any auto parts store. I slid a small piece of the molding along the lower edge of the flange opening, and the muffler shop welded everything together with the weld on pipe hangers. The tip bottom is in contact with the bottom of each opening, and there is about a 1/4" clearance at the top. It doesn't budge, and it doesn't rattle at all. You can't see any of this from behind the car unless you get right down there and look. I think I have the tips out just enough where it looks the best, and they are level and even. I don't want anyone to think I am criticizing the Wheels tips. They are works of art, and they look awesome. It just takes some work to get everything to look it's best.

Larry I agree those tips are excellent. I also agree that 70 bumpers should have this option:)
