Not mine https://sanantonio.craigslist.org/pts/d/new-braunfels-buick-nailhead/7187809556.html Regards,
I'd be all over that ---- but he's only taking cash and most likely won't ship. I sent an email anyway.
401 in my hot rod project as in my Avatar picture. I bought a 401 / T400r4 used kit built by an unknown manufacturer, but was not happy with it. So I decided to have ago at making the adapter plate myself. It turned out OK I suppose but can't be 100% convinced until it's road tested which is still some time away. At least if I can get this then if my effort proved unsuccessful , then I'd have the Bendtsens as a back up.
I sent a second email but no reply. I don't even know if my emails went through ? Never used Craigslist before. Is it possible someone can send an email to him and enquire if it's still available please.
Sweet adapter. I called the number, no answer, left a message. Will try and handle getting it for you Aussie
Yes I'm aware Russ Martin sells them -- same price as the manufacturer. At the time I couldn't afford the full price because of currency exchange, shipping, taxes. The $150 kit was a steal. I'll see how my set up goes once driveable. If not successful, may consider ? the Centerville 4l60e adaptor bellhousing -- but means I have to factor in getting another transmission. I'm always on the lookout for a bargain Bendtsens kit though, even if it's adapter plate only would suffice.
Yes Larry --- aka cobravii, I'm interested also in your experiences with this type of adapter system.
I was going to use this adapter in my '64 Electra with a 700R4 trans. I had the trans built, installed the adapter, shortened the driveshaft and had the whole driveline together BUT when I went to put the body back on I found that the adapter kit put the transmission too far back and would not clear the body without significant modifications to the floor and firewall. I sold it all and went with a 4L60E with a bell housing from Centerville....http://centervilleautorepair.com/transadaptors. It fit awesome and works very well. The performance advantages are really good too. First gear on a 4L60E is lower than a 700R4 and the 4L60E is electronic so I can customize shift point, firmness of shift and have a paddle shifter if I like. With 3:23 gears, 255/70r15 tires and this trans I cruise at 75 mph at approx 1600 rpm
George I'm not recognizing that adapter plate ? Any details on maker, where it was used etc. Larry, with the 4L60E trans / adapter , where did it sit in relation to the original trans eg. sat at same position or shorter ? Also, what effort has to go into the computer set up / wiring for these transmissions in older cars.
I have no info on it. I was told it was an adapter for a buick that could go either way, both nailhead and the later buick bellowing patterns. As you can see by where the starter would go on both sides but opposite direction. I got it with a parts lot from a guy who was a buick master tech in the 60s and 70s here in akron.
I'm looking hard at the adapter George and can't be close to 100% certain there is a bolt pattern for a T700r4 or later 4L60E which are the only two options for me right now. Maybe someone else here can identify. I'll wait until Larry responds to the previous questions. Ken.
