I believe your replacement must be either a 1965 or 1966 425 nailhead. A 63 425 is different and will not mate to your transmission. 64 was a transition, odd year. Verify with a nailhead pro on this Board whether there is an issue with a 64 mating to your 66 tansmission. Be patient because there will be fewer engines for you relative to if you needed a 430 cid.
Completely different engines. They are not even the same displacement. Their numbers just both happen to be rounded off to 425. To add to the confusion at that same time Ford made a 425 cid but just called it a 427 so it would appear to be bigger than a MOPAR 426.
Because it is an Olds it may mate to your trans but all the heating, cooling and electrical hook ups will be different.

Dennis --tell him he is getting the one with the blue valve covers and not the one on the right front.
um.. well Jim? I AM actually talking about the bare shortblock on the right! I'm not sure what the other motor is at this point.. . . .methinx its a che_ _ y... ??
Tmarchtheman --Dennis "wheelz" is great to deal with and he has been around here a long time. The block in the pic is not pretty but they all have to be dipped and cleaned up to some extent. After being boiled they all look the same. So I would not let the looks in the pic scare me.
awe SHUCKS JIM! Thanx for the kudos! BY CHANCE... would you happen to know the weight or ESTIMATED weight of that Nailhead short block? I'm thinking about 275#? ? Wheelz, Tampa bay
ThanX John! I'm gonna go with that. I've located a crate, so now I move onto getting a shipping quote and scheduling... jeeeze.. SOO much 2 du! HEY TERRY! I need a SHIPPING ADDY to the BUSINESS where the machine shop is? fyi: Carriers charge astronomical fees to ship to a residential addy...Wheelz, Tampa Bay
