Hey Wheelz, make sure the motor turns and bore size 4.313, if the shipping is too high the shop said that they will pick it up. Thank for the 110% effort man... Terry.

Terry...IIRC, I was once told this motor has never been rebuilt. SO I sincerely believe it is still the original bore. :Do No: As far as 'turning it over' . . I think if I put a longbar on it, it will prolly "flip over" and land upside down on the valley pan cover! hehehe. :bla:  Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Ya know... IMHO, I really believe that IF I tried to turn it over, it would do MORE damage then just disassembling it when your machine shop has it in their hands. I will say this, once I get to actually see this block again, (its been a few years) I will give it the visual once over, and as best I can, send you an honest description of the condition. FIRST...I have to hook up with the guy... Hopefully he'll call today! ? Maybe? one can only HOPE! Sit tight Terry! Wheelz, Tampa Bay

I understand. Wish I could be more positive but, I am almost totally 100% certain this motor will NOT break loose. It has been sitting in this space for too many years... I guess perhaps you better keep looking. Sorry. Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Heres another thought. Shipping estimates have been from $258 up to $384. (as per R&L, Consolidated & Werner logistics)
WHY NOT consider this offer... I'll pickup this block, crate it, contact the carrier and ship it to your machinist. You pay all shipping. THEN, have your guy take it apart, check it out. Run it thru all the +/- tolerances ... IF it checks out, and it is usable, (which I would bet will be the outcome) send the owner his $195. If it turns out to be a anchor, take it in for scrap metal and put the money towards your shipping costs.
I will trust your machine shop and you would be honest.
I feel this would be a fairly decent option. Its the best I can do. Otherwise, put the word out and keep on looking! LMK. Wheelz, :bglasses: Tampa Bay

Dennis, you should look at the code to identify that rusty lookin' block to make sure it's a 425. Unless of course if you've actually measured the bore. Red can equal a 425 or a '66 Skylark GS 401. The letter code should start with an "M" for '66. The next letter identifies the cubic inch displacement.

Tom...I believe I was told that way back in the early 80's, the fello pulled this motor from a 66 electra and was going to rebuild it for his daughters GS Skylark. . . and there is sits. I will try to identify this block IF EVER the fello returns my calls~ ! :Dou:

I don't know if your interested or not being I'm from Ct. & packing, carting & shipping will cost some $$$$. I do have a friend that goes to Tenn. on occasion that has an S-10 pick-up. Maybe something can be worked out with him. Just a thought. I DO have 3/425's that are all in cars, running & can be driven a short distance. 2 are in '64 Riv's. & one is in a '65 Riv. GS. Problem is I WILL NOT pull an engine until you, or someone you trust, hears it run to confirm all is OK. One '64 is a KW block, 425 1x4, $1500.00. One is a KX block, rare for '64, 425 2x4 that the 2x4 was taken off years ago & which I would like to keep, but as always $$$$$ talk. I have a 401 from a '66 Wildcat, MT, 401 1x4 that I've had for years still in the car. The engine turns over & I'm sure will run but haven't checked it for quality. $$$$ depending on what I find out. I have a 401, KT, from my '64 Wildcat that I pulled years ago. Would have to check on this also. It did run good & has always been kept inside storage. The '65 GS is an LX, 425 2x4 that also had the 2x4 removed years ago. Matching numbers trans. $2500.00. Maybe a road trip is in order???? I know the $$$$ sound high, but what's it worth to know an engine runs, is not cracked or seized or whatever. Let me know. I'm really not anxious to sell any of them, but will to help someone out.

I only have $1000.00 to spend on a motor and thats with shipping, wish I could but thats out of my budget at this moment. I still have to pay for installation of a front end kit, windshield and maybe paint and body my money is running tight at this time . If you find something in my range holla at me. tHANKS terry.

Terry.... FINALLY got a return call... this 'family friend' who called me back this morning, tells me "Bud' (the owner of the warehouse and these parts) had just undergone serious arterial surgery a few weeks ago and he is NOT in too gooda shape right now. However, I am meeting at the warehouse tomorrow evening with this family "FRIEND" to see whats still out there. Apparently, for the past 3 years, "Buds" dufus "SON" has been supporting his illegal drug prescription habit by selling off his Dads expensive parts either by scrap or trading for his 'fix'. . . Buds doesnt remember much and his "friend" basically has no idea whats out in that warehouse anymore. oh goodie. can hardly wait. :puzzled: Wheelz, Tampa Bay

Terry,if your interested in a 66-401 I have one. I checked and it is a MT coded motor which confirms a 66-401. Complete and turns over. If your interested let me know. Tom

Thanks Tom, I've already got the rebuild kit for a 425, don't know if it will work on a 401, but if things don't work out i will consider it.

Terry..wow. Just got home from the visit to the warehouse.. . Walked thru the place with BUD, (owner) for the first time in over a year and WHAT A total MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT. ..here goes:

1-66 Ford 427 motor and trans from a Galaxy XL? 500, GONE! 1- 72 Buick 455 motor and T400 trans. GONE! 1- 425 66 Buick Electra short block, GONE! 2- Nailhead 400 short shaft round bell TRANNYS, GONE! 13 radiators including the radiator from the daughters 65 GS 401 GONE! 6-tupperware BOXES of various Buick/Chevy QJ carbs, mostly 60's/70's- GONE! Riviera fenders, 65 Skylark RUST FREE doors & many bumpers various year musclecars, ALL GONE!

How did this happen?? Well, Bud has been in and out of hospitals and nursing rehab/recovery centers for over 18 months and his wonderful "SON" cleaned him out.. and Bud assumes 'MY IDIOT SON' as he calls him, sold the stuff for pennies on the dollar for his drug habit. . .
    Probably $7000-9000 in parts, GONE.
That 427 Ford motor was worth $4500 all by itself!

SO, I am sorry for getting your hopes up on the Nailhead long block....its gone. There are still some other motors/parts I will soon be listing for Bud, hoping to help him recover some of his losses.

I was a year too late on getting this stuff out of his warehouse and into the hands of you guys, who would use this stuff on your projects. What a shame.
