My experience with these cars has been that there can be ZERO corrosion/residue/dirt on any electrical connection. This includes connections that are made inside any switch...ie headlight/ignition switches...etc. You get the picture. That book is a great help...has save my a$$ a few times.

Also, any electrical connection that is subject to the elements (moistue, humidity, extreme dryness) can be suspect. Cracked wire insulation is the scourge of these cars, they are especially prone to electrical "leakge". mho

I have used lots of FLUID FILM on electrical problems with great success.
    www.fluid-film.com
New batteries in new doorbell. started working when I put one drop of fluid film on the ends of the batteries. Turn signals quit. FF on the relay prongs worked. Home sterio crackled, FF on the speaker plugs, fixed. New locks hard to turn, fuses in 67 Chevy fusebox, firewall plug to fusebox, new battery in movie camera, rusty ground wires, the list goes on...
Stops rust too: squirt some over your wheel wells, battery tray, etc.
Truck drivers: put some on your ratchet binders and straps, lasts 6 months without a squeek and no dust cling.
