The purple wires connected to the S terminal, and yeah we're getting power out of the switch but it seems to not go to the starter, battery may not be fully charged since we've been trying a few things here and there

just getting to that.....Try jiggling the column shifter a little and see if it starts. The purple wire comes out of the switch and goes into the neutral safety switch. The neutral safety switch only allows the power to the starter if the car is in park or neutral. Its mounted to the base of the column

We checked it, we also switched the neutral safety switch, and it still didn't seem to want to work for us

But it is moving when we change gears.

The purple wire goes out of the ignition switch, into the neutral safety switch and back out and onto the starter. With the key in the crank position, you should have power to both sides of the purple wire going in and out of the neutral safety switch and onto the starter. Its basically a one wire circuit. You cant get any easier

Hold the key to the start position while moving the shifter back and forth by park, also try staring in neutral, that sometimes works, do the same by moving shifter with key held to the on position near N.

The first step in trying to fix anything, is to understand hoe the system works.

Have you tried jumping across from the battery terminal (the big one) on the solenoid to the S terminal on the solenoid with a screw driver (make sure that you pull the coil wire off so that the engine can't start) to see if the starter will crank the engine? I hope you didn't waste money on a new starter as the car had a brand new one in it when you got the car.

Yeah, we got ourselves a new starter, the one before wasn't working so well (turning over, when we put the new on in it started up right away compared to the second taking a bit to turn over. But we shall try doing that to the starter tomorrow!

So the fix was to put a starter in it? Im confused. You had said it wasn't turning over at all. No click , no nothing at the starter.

No no! Sorry about that! I just believe that was the lovely gentleman who sold me the car! The original starter died on us and we replaced it with a new one and that worked but for some reason wasn't working so we just got r replaced and we're still in the position to where the car still won't turn over. Sorry for the confusion!

From what I gathered, he's got 12v at the purple wire coming out of the ignition switch but no voltage on the purple wire at the starter. So he's either got no continuity through the neutral safety switch or a break in the purple wire someplace

It almost sounds like the neutral safety switch is moving along with the actuating rod, hard to understand where we are at here.
Keep coming at us Jesse Joe, we'll get it figured out!

You know, its really not that hard of a issue to diagnose. We can walk you through the fix pretty easily step by step. Don't you want to learn how to fix your own car?

yes, i would love to know how to fix my car! (sorry about that I just meant before I had this car I had no vehicle knowledge, so with the help of my best friend has been helping and teaching me what he knows, but by all means I do want to learn how to fix my car.)

So roll up your sleeves and lets figure this out! Lets get this car running.

Get your digital volt/ ohm meter and a continuity tester (some people call it a test light) and lets make some tests. We'll walk you through it one step at a time. And by the time your done, you'll be an expert in your Buick's starting system and giving tech support to others!
