I know it's been talked about before about getting somebody to come up with an affordable crankshaft. But it sure would be awesome. I damaged my 3.95 stroke crank and from where I live stock cranks are getting scarce. I took one to a crank shop and to get repaired and the first thing they said "can't you get one from Scat or somebody". This last one cost about 550.00 with the purchase, stroke and balance, so cost isn't really bad. Ok my rant is over...... Thanks Rick
the problem is the quantity needed to produce to be profitable, we, ( friend and I) had some custom wheels made in china ( where 99% of cranks, wheels etc are made) the quantity required was nuts, plus unless you ordered very large amount. (5000 units) you did NOT have exclusive rights, the cost for our wheels was close to $100k, fortunately for us, they went over big, and other major vendors bought them also. so, cranks made in china, would be an expansive venture, plus every size ( stroke) will be added cost,
We are looking in to purchasing a crank mill to produce cranks and the cam cores people need. It is a major undertaking for my wife and I. We've already been to 3 CNC sales facilities checking things out. 1 machine = about 6 times what we bought our house for.
6 times and that's a used one. a real good new one that walks, talks and gives you change is about 1/2 mill. shops out there buy machines like this and more and pay for them in about 1-2 yrs all based on the parts contract they get. the machine is free and clear after that.
I wish we got the house for 25K As John said the base machines are 225,000 to 525,000 depending on hours and tools in the package. Just transporting the machine to its new home is not cheap. Equipment not counting tools and add ons is 12,000lbs to 14,000lbs
