Here is the 71 color chart confirming trim codes and dark saddle. I know it confusing. Genetically it was called saddle but the actual colors in Buick and replacement literature is Dark Saddle,

Ouch, the correct black accordion hose is available from Cars in NJ. www.oldbuickparts.com

It’s just a quick and easy two letter code like most parts had for easy ID by assembly workers so they didn’t have to remember entire part number.

    Chris,

You might have noticed we tend to get hung up in details around here. :)

At no point did I say that the actual color of 1970 dark saddle was the same shade of brown as 1971's saddle. I was merely reflecting on terminology. Sorry for any confusion. 166 is your interior code as illustrated by your cowl tag. Obviously, that old paint book Dave is sharing with us does indeed put the word dark in there with saddle. If your mixing up a pint for that repaired dash, that is the Ditzler paint code you want to order.

    However,
Legendary Interiors are the "cats meow" for Buick GS interiors. They call it Saddle for 1971. I'd go with Saddle at a reputable vendor like this one.

Buick calls it Saddle as well. It appears to me the painted parts and accessories that go with it are slightly darker and considered dark saddle. In essence, it is a two tone brown interior for 1971.

Ok, one replacement panel I WILL need in the near future is the upper dash panel. I have several rot holes near the windshield.

I've seen several for Camaros, but none specifically for the a GS.

Are all A body upper dash panels the same? If not, is there a vendor who makes the panel?

I've done some metal fabrication in the past and I do NOT want to have to hand fab the edges of that upper dash panel if I don't have to.

    Thanks again....

Check classifieds in the parting out section. Find one getting parted out (68 to 72) and have the owner cut you out a section and ship it to you.

Exactly but as circled it’s dark saddle in the text. It’s important because there is a medium saddle. If you Order carpet get dark saddle. I have seen people get saddle carpet and it is too light. I have used that PPG interior paint and it is right on.

    Being a 4-spd, should it not be a 191?

Yes, but good luck with that. You could use an Automatic 190. It just opens at a different rate. Doesn’t make much difference. The cost in finding a 191 is just not worth it. I have never even seen one for sale.

Here are correct near mint kick panels if you get sick of the non stock speakers in there. I painted these with correct 71 dark saddle about 10 years ago. They could pretty much be used on a concourse car. EA1EC887-792F-4EE6-B603-AF1E3AF4E1E0.jpeg
