Merry Christmas all, New to the Buick world but not cars. Going to pick up my 69 Skylark convertible tomorrow so I can sort through all the pieces-parts and take my first bite of the newest elephant. I figured after a 58 Caddy motor rebuild a Buick shouldn't be too hard plus I have a soft spot for convertibles! Im sure Ill ask lots of stupid questions but promise to keep posting pics of the progress. Hope to have her moving and stopping by spring. Cheers!
Welcome aboard from Canada! You'll find a Buick engine a bit of a change from a Caddie; IMHO the Buicks are better designed, the Caddie uses older architecture. Either way, each has their good and bad points, and nothing is more satisfying than to get one and hear one running again.
Thanks guys, The Lark is snugged in its new home for now next to the Deere and Dad's Spyder. Now to sort through all the accumulated parts from the previous owner in lots of boxes, tubs, and the trunk. She looks worse than it is. The frame, brakes, lines, and front suspension have been redone and painted. New disc brakes up front and a powder-coated rad support. No big body damage or rust to fix, an extra door, hood, deck lid, and intact interior. The wife is about to kill me but understands that I'm a car addict. Have a happy New Year. Smokey try the West Coast of FL next time - Anna Maria or Longboat Key are hard to beat. 2cents
Greetings .. and welcome to "The StepChild Nation", which is what us 68/69 guys loosely call ourselves due to these years being overlooked for so long You need 2 things immediately 1) a 1969 Buick Chassis Service manual - this one seems like a good deal, which I consider to be under $50 for a not too crappy one http://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-BUICK-...ash=item25ca068c31:g:qgAAAOSwdIFX11UC&vxp=mtr if you hunt around, you'll also find this on CD/DVD - never had one but I hear they are nice .. but to me there's nothing better than having the book in your lap or on the fender 2) you need to make a new friend - Nick Serwo at Ivyland Collision not too far from you at all. Not only is he a great guy, he is one of the TOP Buick restoration guys on the planet .. AND his personal favorites are 69's !! He's got a whole collection !! not to mention just about any part you may need. I'd bet, if you're not too far - he'd even come over for a beer and look at all you have to see what direction to go in this is his user I.D. http://www.v8buick.com/member.php?14669-nickbuickgs
Alan, we may just do that next time. We have been there. Very nice area. A friend of mine winters there, and owns a few rentals as well. This time, we went with 15 others: Son & DIL, their 3 Daughters and spouses, DIL's sister and spouse, 5 great grandkids. So it was a Disney trip. What are your plans for the Buick? Restoration, Restomod? Colors?
Not making the progress that Swervo is but getting there. Got the drivetrain in today and seeing the light at the end of the tunnel! Reassembly is more fun than cleaning and painting.
