New race format, what do ya think

Wanted to throw an idea out there to see what everyone thinks. Everything would remain the same UNTILL the 2 or 3 round shootouts are done. Then the winners of those shootouts continue on to race the winners of the other shootouts. These race pairings would have handycap starts based on your qualifying E.T. In the case of a double E.T. breakout, the worst breakout goes home. Sandbagging rule stays in effect. Could be fun and that would be a drivers race. This would kinda be like the old NHRA stock days. I know, I know ...this is not my race, just want to see what ppl. think of this.

Really... no other comments. It would only add about 5 more races and there would be a pure stock victor. I think the crowd would love to watch an 11 sec. car chase down a 13 or 14 sec. car.

Sounds like fun. Use the qualifying et as a dial in with no changes allowed. Makes it a drivers race!!

I like the idea, gives the slower cars a chance to shine, more emphasis on the driver too.

At first when I read this I didn't really care for it.

Thinking about it though, folks could win or lose their shootout.

Shootout winners, if inclined, would line 'em up, no official pairings needed. Have a time limit to shut down the lanes preventing games. Most races could be close at first.

Lose or break out, on the trailer, winners continue to line up ( the tower would have the qualifying numbers anyway ) Overall winner is top eliminator.

Didn't like the idea at first because I don't like bracket racing. But it might put an end to this closest to 11.50 is the winner stuff.

I'm all for it. Some travel a good distance and I think most of us just like to race. This gives us a chance for at least one more trip down the track. This past year the Wrapper didn't have anyone to race and was going to have to make three runs down the track without a competitor.

We chose to run a car a quarter second quicker than us that did not have a competitor either just to have someone to run. Naturally we lost the shootout but still way better than making solo runs.

I like the idea. As long as it doesn't interfere with the shootout and it's voluntary it could make for some fun racing. I'm sure there's the devil in the details, but worth running by the powers that be. It also gives me my only chance of beating Maher to the finish line.

not sure I like the idea of a hemi flying up my butt with a 20 mph tail wind, but I guess it would be a change from watching them walk away at that same rate...........

of course, it would be a lot of fun watching Ted try to race himself in the second round :Brow:

Including it as an extra add on to the event after the shootouts are completed would be a viable option. As noted more seat and track time would be a benefit as well as extending the event for the spectators and racers. The racers who do not participate in this would get a chance to watch some racing action. All you would have to do is add your qualifying et to the windshield and you are ready to go. Run it as a round robin with maybe 5 minutes of cool down between rounds to keep it moving.

Setting this up or getting the ok from the track might be the tough part. Resetting or changing the computer system to the bracket format would be the easy part. Would there be an extra cost for the additional track time used? The track personnel have already been at work for a typical full day schedule so would they need to be paid for the extra work time? The EMT's would need to be arranged for and compensated accordingly as well. Additional track prep might need to be completed which is an added cost. There might need to be a buy in fee with a minimum number of participants required to cover the cost making it viable.

There are a few logistics to work out but it would be fun. I'm in.

I believe there is a Saturday night racing program at Stanton, so we would need to be done and gone by a certain time.
I agree it could be fun, maybe a $10 buy in to cover track costs?

I would be in . More track time the better I say. For some of the long haul guys it might be good or not as some use sunday as a travel day. I think it would be a great option if they decided to try it.

Great idea, but pity the drum brake car after 2 round robins. Not that it would probably affect me if I was driving, but my car is good for one good run, barely enough brakes for a second one, and useless on the third.

The track has not held a saturday night program after the PSMCDR for several years.

Just make it a best of 5 with your pairing car and keep it running between rounds. What does it matter if the cars are not in exact order after the first round, it will be close if the racers are forced to return to the staging lanes after the race. The fans come to watch cars go down the track, drivers show up to race their car, neither want to sit around and wait for the smell of rubber.

This best of 5 will give the most amount of race time for everybody. Start the national anthems at 1pm and we could be done by 4pm if we keep things running

NAH, more fun to run someone else, or possibly several different people. Best of 5, I'll load up and head home.

Believe this. The cars that are able to run under will have a field day running in this type of format. They will pass the slower car in the first few hundred feet and then back pedal. The 3 tenths breakout rule you say? You better change that to no breakout allowed. Either that or you will all be crying to change the rule after the first running of such a race, but then again, it's never gonna happen anyway.
