    John,

My wheels from this supplier should be here soon, he has them done, and sent pictures. I also told him I would post here regarding his wheels. I was waiting to get mine so I could take pictures and post them here. He sounds like he definately knows what he is doing, and has been doing it for many years. He is also very nice to talk to, and he explains his process in detail.

    I ordered 15 x 8 with 4.5 backspacing, and will order 2 more 15 x 7's when I see the others. Also, my brother will be ordering 2 15 x 8's for his car.

I will then sell my "WG" wheels on ebay to recoupe some of my $$. I don't need the "WG"'s for my car since it didn't come with them from the factory. I'll let you know when I get my new wheels.

Don do you know what you'll ask for the WG's and their condition . I only really need one so I hate to buy a set .

    John,

Don't know asking price for wheels? That's why I was thinking ebay. Will be selling complete set of four. As for the condition, they look brand new. I am going to remove one of the tires to see if there is a GM part number sticker in there? I am spending way too much money on other things for this car and need to see if I can get some of it back (to buy even more things).

  5. so... just who is this Mystery supplier?

This guy had an add for 110 per set for 15X7 and 120 for 15X8 . The method he uses is to cut the rim off 14" ralleys and then acid wash and media blast them then weld in new rims . Paint and they have the original finish instead of chrome plated centers . I will be waiting Dons post to see if they balance out right but it looks like the supplier knows what hes doing and will be a excellent alternative to the others . He claims any backspace available and original runout specs . Seems like a good deal to me

    John,

It was $110 per wheel for 15x7 and $120 per wheel for 15x8. He also has very good shipping rates. I will update when I get my wheels.

110 a rim is very good price. What do you expect? 50 bucks a rim and when he delivers them he mows your lawn?

I am still figuring out V*Buicks forum setup. My name is Curt McKim. I live in Slater, Iowa and I am the guy that makescustom steel musclecar wheels. Basically what I do is take a 14 x 6 Buick Rally, cut the center out in my lathe. Acid treatment, 2 stage buffing for the chrome. Tape wheel up and cut with razor so just the black is showing. I glassbead all the old paint off. One coat primer, 2 coats paint. Center is done and looking good. I get NEW rimhells from California by the pallet. Set center in jig, put rimshell over center to desired backspace. Put dial indicator on rim and slowly spin and adjust rimshell until dial indicator is at 0. Weld up wheel and recheck for tolerance. You have a new wheel with original center. You can make a 14 into a 15, centers are the same. Pretty much any backspace you need. Been doing the wheel thing for 15-16 years now. I don't advertise but go to swap meets every other weekend and sell straight to the public. Any questions, call 515-685-3397 . Thanks, Curt!!!

Don't forget that the new repro which has a good value at 139 isn't correct for a resto wherte original appearence counts . I have a set of those on my replica Suncoupe Stage 1 . They are all chrome . While they look nice they do not have the originaol look I need for my Sage 1 car . I think that there is a place for both . If you prefer an all new rim and the chrome center is fine with you , then you should buy the repro . For me qandf I bet a lot of others here I'll go this route
ON the rocker trim I have been so busy with the resto that I have not had a chance to drag them out again . I will get some pics for you asap and you can send a email again as I cleaned out the inbox

After the chrome is acid washed and buffed, is it neccesary to treat the surface with some sort of rust inhibiter?
