All the googling I've done for a month now on my car has almost always led me to this forum so I thought it would be in my best interest to join. Seems to be tons of knowledge in here. Glad to be here and be gentle lol I'm a buick noob. Beautiful is she? any tips, tricks, do's, or don'ts are greatly appreciated also
I commend you on an excellent choice of vehicle! That's a nice looking car Welcome to the board from Western Massachusetts! Bob
Thank you Bob. I am in love with car already! It was my brothers for the last 7 years and he was nice enough to let me take it off his hands. She'll pass everything but a gas station as I'm sure you know.
Welcome! That’s a fabulous car you have there. As far as maintenance, it may need a new timing chain and gears if it still has the original nylon coated top gear. Otherwise, check out all the rubber hoses, vacuum lines, etc., then tune it up and follow Larry’s ‘power timing’ thread. Drive it and enjoy it! Patrick
Will do Patrick. So far I have replaced all vacuum lines, rubber fuel lines and added inline filter, new radiator, hoses, thermostat, water pump, fan with clutch, plugs (gapped @ .060) and 8mm super stock wires, and rebuilt edelbrock 750 carb which is junk apparently. I have messed with the timing a bit but something isn't right so I'm rebuilding the Holley 750 double pumper that was on it when my brother got it since I don't have a quadrajet to put back on it and hopefully that'll help. Distributor is HEI but I didn't do it so I've actually got it torn apart now for a rebuild as well. I'm not much of a mechanic but I bet you're right about the timing chain and gears so I'll see what I can do Danny
If the inline filter is glass ditch it; they’re fire hazards! And buy a qjet from one of our vendors here-shouldn’t run more than $350 or so and well worth it. Patrick
Thank you sir! I'll get my funds prioritized and see what I can do. There is a local guy that rebuilds them but he's too rich for my blood.
