    Hi all,
    The Culprit: 1970 Buick GS

First off, I am really enjoying fixing on my first Buick and love how the car drives. However much like any old cars they have their list of needs. Currently, I am trying to sort out issues with my electrical system.

My Buick doesn't have any interior lights other then one small directional that will come on when I turn right
(At least its a start, right?) and no working speedometer.

I have changed out bulbs, and checked fuses with no big change and even changed out the switch and still nothing. I assume a ground but not sure. Also to be honest getting this cluster out is a pain! Any tricks to look for, Also how did I tell my speedo is good or not? Does anyone bench test old speedometers?

    Any pointer would be great!

    Mike

Speedos really break. Cables break, the trans gear sometimes breaks. Speedos from my experience, not so much. Cable could be disconnected behind the dash. You can disconnect it at the trans and put a variable speed drill on the inner cable. Try to turn the inner cable by hand first before putting a drill on it. Have some bodt watch inside the car. One way the speedo needle will go up, the other way the odometer will go down. I would get a jumper wire to run from under dash metal to a metal part on a cluster just to see if it lights at all. You can't just look at old fuses in a box and tell much. You can test both sides of a fuse with a test light to see if power is going through it, or substitute a new fuse. I'd start there.
