The Nov. '71 Parts book has this spoiler listed as 70-72 GSX. I think a '70 parts book will have it as a different part number, but, I'm not sure. Perhaps somebody with an earlier parts catalog can/ will take a look. It's also interesting that that parts book offers a gasket for the '70, but not '71-72. The same goes for the spoiler reinforcement.
"Strange, No threaded holes, is this how they came if you bought new from GM?" Yes, Only the production models would have the stud mounted on and the hole for the screw. With the factory replacements you also have no idea what year they were for, and have to drill the necessary holes in the bottom, plus you can't mount them correctly unless you fabricate and install the stud assemblies. I find it incredibly ironic that I am selling a correct used 72 GSX rear spoiler with the correct mounting studs for half the price of this one, and the only offer I got was priced as a used aftermarket piece. Seems to me somebody is going to pay over $500.00 for a box. I think it's time to put mine on e-bay. Duane
Duane, Keep in mind they can ask $975 if they want but that doesn't mean they are going to get any bids at $975.
Maybe not, but a lot of guys put high prices on their listings so someone will PM them and then it gets sold for big money, and all because it is "NOS". They buy it for a bit less then the listed price and think they are getting a bargain! There is this misguided "mystique" regarding NOS parts, and the sad thing is many of them are wrong for our cars. I can't tell you how many guys bought NOS parts, stuck them on their cars, and we had to deduct points off because they were wrong for that year car. Brad and I talk about this all the time. Duane
To figure out what year they would be correct for you would need to measure the length of the pedestals from tip to tip. That would let you know if it is the correct 70 style, or would be one of the 71-72 style and later 70 replacements. I also don't know what the NOS pieces weight in at, but the 71-72 spoilers, as used on the cars, were heavier then the ones installed on the 70 cars. You might not think that's important, but it makes the difference between having to hold up the trunk lid, or having it come up too fast and whacking your chin. (You will end up seeing stars, believe me.) Most often the NOS pieces are the last version style part. You can also see on the pedestal posted above, that there is no screw hole, no vent hole, and no mounting stud in the pedestal base. Plus there are no exposed holes underneath, so they would need drilled as well. That is the way they were sold. Duane
