sitting in a hold pattern waiting for spring to break so I can disassemble the Turd (66 GS). i'm using the frame and engine for the Special so the GS has to be scavenged first. been buying little things here and there. Picked up a very nice pair of tail lights from a board member and now i'm on the hunt for a pair of backup light assemblies or at least a decent reverse light lense or two.

so I had to take the car down to the local DMV office for a V.I.N inspection because it was an out of state car. I figure it's 2 miles away, what can possibly go wrong? car drove ok at highway speeds, steering is a wee bit sloppy but it's an old car right? I pull into the DMV parking lot and the car dies. it wont restart. luckily the parking lot is sloped towards the back so I let the car roll backwards into a parking space and go inside to take care of my DMV business. come back out and it still wont start.. ran outta gas and battery is now nearly dead, so it got towed 2 miles home ..guess making sure it had gas before I left would have been a good idea eh?

yes that is really the DMV parking lot.. it's a semi rural DMV and usually not very busy.. I made the mistake of going on the first day of the month.

Also they are very busy as at least here trucks, trailers, RV’s, etc. all expire at the end of February making early March swamped with renewals.

All our renewals are every 2 years and the first and last day of each month are always crazy busy at DMV

Looks like you've got a great one to start with, especially that interior. Love it! My Special Deluxe wasn't quite that nice but had almost no rust. Had quite a few 'grandma/grandpa' dings and scrapes though. I'll post a few pics just in case you need any inspiration. Guess I should have done a progress post like you and others have done.
    Good luck with it!

Steve, your car looks great and looks like it was probably a very fun project. I really would have preferred a non-ac car and I have my eye on one that I may buy to use for the basis of my project instead of the one I currently have.

Bob, You likely noticed the AC delete plates on the 65 Joe GSGTX has for sale.... That upper firewall opening could be repurposed for a cold air intake. Would be a neat way to utilize the Special you have now. But good luck on your search for a more suitable car.

Steve, you did a fantastic job on that car! It's one of my favorite 66 builds!

Guys, thanks for the comments; it was a fun project.

Bob, just realized that I encroached on your project thread... Sorry about that!

Started pulling apart the GS today and made great progress. Should have the body up off the chassis in the next day or two. still trying to decide if I want to use the GS frame or just stick with the frame that's already in the special. Depends on if there's a local buyer interested in the boxed GS frame.

    Your into it now....
I'd utilize that boxed frame, but it's really not necessary. After all , it seems to be one of the only usable pieces of the GS....you paid too much money for that frame, may as well use it in the new build. Good luck, looking forward to seeing your progress. ....Jim

from the doors forward the sheet metal is in pretty good shape. frame is very nice. I can cut a good passenger lower quarter and trunk drop off the car. I think the drivers trunk drop may be usable as well. engine runs good and trans works well but since it's a 2 speed its not very sought after.

I was very surprised to see these big block bump stop extensions on this car seeing how it's a 66 and just a 2 speed automatic car.
