ATTACH=full]397622[/ATTACH] I had a lead on this car about 7 years ago and contacted the lady that owned it and tried to get documentation if it was real. Her husband had passed away and she said he only bought nice cars but never got back to me. Today a friend of mine called me from a car show in northern Ontario and said he is standing in front of a yellow Gsx. I asked for pictures of the firewall so he texted me and sure enough it's the same car. I'm going to call the owner to see if they know about Wayne Roberts reports but wanted to share the interesting photos. I'd be interested to see what you guys think. I don't know if it's for sale and this is not a lead just strange stuff I'm doing this from my phone and clearly have not figured out how to attach other photos of the car??
Someone made up and added the fender tag. This one has it beat: https://classiccars.com/listings/vi...x-for-sale-in-hope-mills-north-carolina-28348 VIN:433371H174503 "This gorgeous 71 Buick may have started out life as a GS, but no one would ever know it from the outside! It has been restored to perfection as a GS-X, which is one of the most coveted Buicks of all time..."
Very curious what "GSX 14" would reference. By the build date of "04D", there were way more than 14 GSXs built (by then). Maybe Duane can chime in if he's seen anything similar. I know Brad's show car and the companion red fireglow show car have little parts with identifiable custom 'Buick' markings denoting the custom trim work and body. And there were plenty of GM show cars which received specialized small "GM Design" emblems denoting the custom bodies and trim, but this plate seems a little rough. The "Test Veh." is the most descriptive element on that unusual plate. Would Buick have pulled a GSX off the production line for some kind of testing???
Wayne Roberts has the microfilm for these cars and he when he decodes the info he includes which number the car is. So for this instance I would figure the "tag" is stating this was the 14th GSX that was built, but who ever made the tag up thought the last 3 digits on the vin was the GSX number. They started making them in late Feb, so the production number is probably much higher.....................as to whether that is right or not, does it really matter. I mean really? Duane
Is that X near Ottawa? I heard of an X years ago that belonged to a Doctor who lived east of Ottawa, maybe Lindhurst Korrie
This car is in the Timmons, Ontario area and probably has been for 10+ years. I have the owners contact info and will be suggesting Wayne Roberts to him/her? There is a gsx in Ottawa and I bought my 69 wildcat from the fellow, He also had a stage 4 speed convertible gs and a Gnx
I talked to the current owner, apparently the car came from North Carolina, not sure when? He bought it from his friends widow. Non original motor and transmission he hasn't checked any other part numbers, he did find the build sheet on the gs's tank and the vin is 2 numbers off? I've told him about this forum and that he can find out lots of information on his car and will be sharing that with him in the future. Gord
He likely found the build sheet for another car on the assembly line that day. Several of us have experienced this.
So then are the options on build sheet typically the same as the options on the car even if the vin is different or do the options listed on the found sheet differ from the options the car got built with? Thanks Gord
When cars have the wrong build sheets all that means is the guy on the assembly line put the wrong gas tank under the car. For a 70 car there were only 2 different gas tanks available, a 49 state tank, and the special vented one for California sales. That meant almost ALL the gas tanks looked the same, so the guy on the Flint line took one off the pile and stuck it in. That is why many of them are wrong. Often the incorrect sheet will be from a car of the same color, but not always. Duane
Each car is unique. The build sheet is for the car with the matching VIN and the options listed on the sheet "should" be what were put on the car. There were factory mistakes and options were missed or added but that is fairly rare.
In my 72, there were two build sheets. The sheet for my car was in the passenger seat, while the driver's seat had a build sheet for a car 10 digits off in the VIN. Cheers
