7424 is a great buffer but it won't correct paint and take sanding scratches out . Like a circular polisher . But to untrained that can be dangerous . There are some new models that offer a lower speed . I'd find " scrap " panels to practice on though ..., DL Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
yep........practicing is key ,but in my case we screw up and then learn ou: Here we have my hood sanded down to 600 with a slight mist of primer seal over the once hazy area and then re-base whole hood again...had an area that was hazy/cloudy so re-taping and spraying this weekend Here is my buffing burn on my front pillar ....The guy at my paint store suggested a spray can of blender instead of me mixing 85% reducer with 15% clear and it worked out very good and super impressed with the blender spray ....all it needed was a fast light mist on both ends And then after further investigation I had a super small less than 1/3 of a dime buffer burn on my rear pillar that after further sanding with 600 It went farther into my primer fill have a feeling I was misshaped slightly here (High spot ) its a tricky curve but now matches other side better so after some dry hits of primer seal ,base ,clear and then the spray can blender magic it repaired out very good . live and learn
ahahhhaah well I had many many lull periods ...the last lull I didn't even walk in the garage for 3 years actually if I punched in and out /time-clocked myslef of actual work I would say 9-11 months besides spending lots of hours staring at paint drying and contemplating the screw ups and thinking of the attack methods budget ....? I was thinking a go fund me page p
Love that pic, lighting is neat, brings out the lines, car is lookin good....maybe when you get it rollin I'll fly down there, go for a ride and get my diet coke, FINALLY!!!
ahahha...you remembered ..but in cans only no fountain coke ...sold that business 3 years ago now we in the vape biz
Cleaned up the interior (after it had been a storage cave for the last 4 years) so I can spot weld the brackets for the center console and then lay some sticky sheets of sound/heat deadener and then by next week hopefully get the dash area painted correctly and start the wiring and then carpet and the rest of interior. Its going to be a slow go winter in the garage for me partially bcs I have tiptoe around the car so I dont scratch/ding the new paint ou: so far I been lucky
well now we are on the dash section ..re-cleaned and sanded and then layed 1 coat ppg epoxy then a few dabs of bondo here and there I sprayed the top section of dash with landau black SEM spray can ...no pic have it covered now ..came out sweet sweet then 2 light coats of feather fill primer fill and done ..wait a few days and light sand smooth I ordered the recommended Laquer spray can from Tower paint ..should be here any day now ....
When it comes to painting I'm the anxious type that always wants to touch it/watch it dry ,so Ive been trying to stop that bad habit by doing something else on the other side of the garage to occupy my time with ..so I got out my steering column bcs that has to be painted black as well ,then after examining at the plate foam/gasket we opened up a big can of worms .....ou: this surely kept me away from touching any paint
Frank: Did a 68 GS Conv. took 4 years. My son and I did it together Frame-off. Takes time to find missing or bad parts. We figure about $90,000 in labor if we sent it out. Spent around $32,000. by doing it our self. But we know it is done right. Love driving and show it. Bill
sounds great ...my son was 7 when I started.... tried to get him involved but just slightly with the power tools back then ,now he is 18 and just walks in pretending to see the progress ,its like I'm a tour guide in my own garage when he walks in  kids today
Just finished spraying dash and steering column with ppg/ ditzler 9266 came out sweet. used a 1.3 tip and 3 coats and 1 quart goes a long way its a 1:1.5 mix with thinner ,a pint would of done it all easily but for the price difference the quart was the answer $80 pint /$120 qrt....the ppg lacquer thinner was in the $50 range ou: I first tried the APS in spray can it worked good but had some blending in problems on re prepped scratch and a low spot bcs I believe the 2nd can I ordered a week later was not mixed correctly and came out very flat compared the prior can all it takes is time and money ...but we running out of those soon enough  next we start on floor insulation /sticky tiles and on to the new wiring ...
been out of garage the last few months plus .........but this just came in from Cars ,inc and it looks like its going to put us back in the mood ....time for a steering wheel install and then start on the complete wiring I have a green one but after the price of hub and rest needed and besides painting it black . It looks like a good sw kit ,most likely the same kit that tpp offers just a little bit cheaper plus less the Il state tax for me from Cars, inc on their ebay site
Wheel on and looks good ........only slight gripe is the horn button kind of cheaply snaps on in place does this space between the column and hub look ok ?
Sound and heat sticky tiles installed...eastwood brand and a few generic ones ...headliner and carpet coming next
We are into headliner country .....started out as fun and in the mood ......looking good so far,the front is good but the rear quarter area is going to be a beast ....now its not fun no more ...everything in clips ...some relief cuts coming and more stretching and adhesive the the next few days.
I am taking a week off bcs I am P'eed off at myself ... It was looking very good and then making a few last relief cuts on the sail area then I pulled and it kept tearing .....I think I pulled to hard ......just ordered another one ....practice makes perfect oh well on the bright side I will have an extra sail panels and visor material lucky me .
