    Hi all,

I new I had a minor oil look from the intake manifold. today I went to do an oil change and drove the car up on ramps. while inclined, the car started steadily dripping oil for over 10 minute. fast drops but not a stream. I looked under hood and could not find fresh oil source. the drips where coming off the fly wheel cover. the pan nut was dry as well as the visible pan areas. where is my leak coming from? changed the oil about 6 months ago the same way and did not have same leak. was in the process of flushing engine with fresh oil but since I barely used car during this time, I delayed final oil change with DRIVEN.

Dripping down the outside of the flywheel cover or dripping from the small hole in the cover?

If it's not the pan it could be the rear main.

    1. Drop the pan
    2. Remove #5 main cap
    3. Remove old seal install new rope seal
    4. Lube the end of the seals with something like rtv
    5. Install everything back in place
Also a good time to check the condition of everything down there
This is very general, but it’s not impossible to do on your own

thanks John. yeah i'm not planning on doing myself. but I just don't have to many repair shops specializing in old iron near me.

Rope seals are a real pain in the butt to install and not leak. I would suggest using a neoprene seal replacement, they are a lot easier to install and less likely to leak. Maybe someone on this form sells them. I replaced the rear seal on my 350 with neoprene and haven't had a single leak in 4 years.

Get the neoprene kit from TA Performance. And I've heard respected members on the forum say it is best to pull the engine to do it right.

Surely there has to be a mechanic down your way who can help with this.

I had a leak identical to yours. I did remove the inspection plate and cleaned it.. cleaned up the flywheel area.. Twisted some yarn 3 strans to make it larger.. with that I cleaned the oil off the crank. ran motor no oil leak at crank.. swaped out VC & intake gaskets.. No leaks..now

if it does not leak when car is on ground and level, any problem driving the car? keeping fluids topped off of course does a leaking rear main seal lower oil pressure?

Clean up all the oil off the outside of the motor. Find out just where the leak is coming from. you will need to drive the car to find the leak.

loose OP? No unless its real bad...
