This thread seeks experiences with different brands of shock absorber / spring combinations for a street / strip A body. Cosider this for a nondaily driven car but want some handling manners, and highway drive to track and have the best weight transfer at the track and when launching in street conditions.

Mono tube / Twin tube/ Adjustable / Non Adjustable, Hotchkis, Koni, Billstein, QA1...etc...let 'er rip...

Moog 5230's with two coils cut, Strange single Adjustable fronts and Double rears, will be my hardware of choice, AFCO if budget permits. Ive never heard many good things at all about qa1 from serious racer

AFCO for sure...plus they are made in the good ole USA.

I watched stock(ish)cars at the track that I thought launched well, and more often than not they were running Calvert 90/10's up front. I got a set for my 71 (replacing Competition Engineering adjustables) and immediately ran my 60fts down to 1.93 from 1.99. Like them alot!

What street handling characteristics are compromised with the AFCO shocks and the Calvert shocks?

I honestly didn't find any - I had Calvert 90/10's on the front, CE 70/30's on the rear and drove the wheels off the car..I did have Airlift bags in the rear, set to 25 lbs both sides for the street.

I was always told it was suicidal to drive a street car with drag shocks...maybe I'm just not that observant! Loaded, unloaded, fast, slow, passengers and alone. it was pretty much all the same to me.

Interesting, I am going to run Comp Engineering adjustables all the way around in my 70 on the street. Hoping for some driveability ... car will see track time, I'm minutes from NewEnglandDragway. Jim/Rott

Hey Jim! Try the Calverts on the front, a little more expensive and you have to open the control arm up about 1/8 inch but I like them a whole lot better than CE fronts. I watched guys at LVD who's cars launched well, and they all seemed to be using them.

Guy, the AFCO 1030 ans 1035 are non-adjustable gas shocks. What makes these the best Street / Strip shocks?

Would have to look what # mine are. They are double adjustable aluminum body. Although I don't know about the street part, they are very easily adjusted by clicker knobs. One on top and one on the bottom.

Okay, the AFCO double adjustable makes sense then as one can dial in the preferences.

I decided to go with Viking front and rear tgey only make Double Adjustable and have seen and heard nothing but good things about them and compared by most dealers as equal to Afco in every way just half the $
