Maybe you can help some of us figure out if we can try to do something similar for the 1971 Cortez Gold Stage 1 convertibles that were also Zone office cars?

Oh how I wish we could find the microfilm on the 71's...

I was planning to put a section on the little website about the '71s too. That's why I didn't put 1972 in the domain name. Without the microfilm it will be hard to really know the truth, but if we can gather the info on several that all have low VINs and all built during the same week, early in the year, it would be a pretty good confirmation that the same thing occurred in 1971.

A few years ago a guy contacted my dad a few times asking him to restore a GS convertible that he had inherited form his dad. It was a Cortez Gold '71 Stage 1. It might have been one of those cars. I his we still had his phone # but that was probably 5 or more years ago.

I have VIN's, Body #'s, and build dates on four or five 71's that I started collecting after speaking to Eric (N360LL) one day.

I think I bought the car that the guy called your Dad about. It's a cool story that will be told here on the board one day, but not yet...

We can compare notes when we see one another, but I bet you are right that it probably is the same car/guy that contacted my dad. The ar was in TN at that time. Can't be too many of these around.

After I get the '72 information loaded onto the website, I'll need to tap you and Eric (N360LL) for the details (options and such) of the Cortez '71s so I can also solicit others with those cars to come forward too. Another thing I will need is photos of a Cortez Gold car. Those cars are out there.

Oh, and now I'm wondering what other treasures you've got hiding down there in TX

Glad to see that you are spreading the word about the '71s. Since I started this thread, I've confirmed 10 of the 25 cars made in '72 are still in existence. I'm sure ther are more out there. I sent you an email with an idea on how to spread the word even more about both the '71s and '72s.

Thanks for the response. I don't think the Boston, MA zone office car has been accounted for until now. I'm happy to know that it has survived. I've sent a PM to you for more info.
