From my understanding on the 11.50 mark, the track is dictating this mark. I also understand that pressure from the tracks is what caused FAST to finally accept a jungle gym with the appropriate tow straps!!!:Dou: I hate to see certain cars excluded because of the barrier, but I also look at it as a masters program. You have graduated Pure Stock with honors, now step up and start whippin' on the FAST class?:Do No:

I am not trying to stir the pot, but I also understand that rules are put in place for a reason. We all have to remember that this party we make vacation plans for and spend hours spinning wrenches on is by invite of Bob and Dan. We may gripe and complain, but in the end, what they say goes!!! Dirt gets slung, and feelings get hurt, but in the end all of us are old enough to understand that the rules are there for a reason. If the rules get violated, there should be reprocutions! I also understand that if there is a rule, a racer will figure out a way to make everything work out in their favor. Because there are so many different combinations, it is difficult to write a rule to encompass everything. That being said, we as honorable racers should not exploit the 'grey' areas, but the envelope will be pushed. :TU:

    Very well said, Rusty.

We all need to get along.
Watch this short video clip and it will help get us all on the right track.

Get off it already? How have I been on it?

Mark, lets recall that lubed up parking lot night. Pete, BK and I were talking, you were right nearby. We were laughing with BK about his responce to Pete's ignition box question (you know, does nothing), when cams came up. I said you guys with your BK, JW PDQ cams better pray the Chevy boys don't do what your doing and come up with the PS I love you cam (Pete Simpson get it?) You then went into the Melling explanation where I stopped you and said, I don't care what you are running that's fine, mine aren't NOS either, just pray the Chevy boys don't do it.

Now, regarding the JW cams, you have posted on the Pontiac site:

    Mark Weymouth, 11-29-2007, 09:07 AM
"The cam is the one I developed with endless hours of dyno time and input from Dan along the way. It has evovled with each build and dyno session. It is now very well refined. We have refined it not just in HO's but in RA III's and HO 400's. It is now in it's fifth generation."

"RA III's have shown even better progress. We took the melling base line 068 also at 370 hp for a RA III. The 1st gen cam used in my brothers '69 T/A made 387 hp. The third gen version had a '67 HO 400 making 412 hp and now the latest gen has similarly built RA III's capable of making 420+!"

    Mark Weymouth, 07-25-2008, 08:56 AM

"The 744 and and 047 cams also carry there own centerlines. There is no hard and steady rule but rather just hours of dyno time to determine what is best. And they can very with which motor they go into also."

"That is why we do not have any off the rack cams or really sell them. Each project has its own specs."

You then posted on V8 Buick:

 Utter BS? After reading the previous posts I thought that last one was utter comedy!

    Relax!

Brian we have had three lobe versions of the 068 as stated above and tried two center lines, hence the 5 items.

If you read closely and what you did not drag over from the Pontiac sight is not a single one of these guys race or will race. They were requesting cams for their combos, one a 5 spd HO car, the other a modified motor, for the street. None of them have ever raced or will they. You can take the quotes out of context but it still does not mean I will let you get away with trying to change the context.

We could make lots of power in these motors and have but that is why I run the correct Mellings in the race cars. My HO used to make 429 hp and 540+ tq when we dyno'd it for MCE with Lunati's RA cam. It had too much duration to be legal at 220/228. But now that it races we redid it and it makes 403/530 with the correct cam. Which Dan changed out if you have any questions about the build you may ask him as he did it. Plus multiple people were there at the dyno session including Dan and Bob. They can certify that we made the changes to bring it into compliance with the rules. And it cost me a nice chunk of money and power to correct my street car into a PS race car.

Just because I help someone with an engine build and then we dyno it does not mean it has anything to do with Stanton. My life does not revolve around everything applying to PS cars. Virtually all the motors I have helped with have never nor will they ever come to Stanton. That is why I have Dan build my race motors instead of me. It creates seperation between my friends and my fun motors and my race motors. We have told you this several times and you know it. I built a custom roller for Bruno's and my FAST motor, but what relevance is that to PS? Built custom roller cams for several stroker motors for freinds. We have been able to learn becuase every motor I have helped with we dyno. Sometimes I have even helped with the dyno cost so we could see the results.

You are trying to hold me to a standard that does not work. It is like telling Comp Cams that because they design cams for circle track racing they can not do any work on cars that might race in NHRA because it is a conflict and a cam that was designed for circle track might end up in a Sunday bracket race. In the same disjointed logic Dan should tell Pierce Race Engines who does the machining for him and most of our dynoing that they can no longer work on any motors that are not PS motors as it compromises the integrity of the Stanton race.

Keep the context. Street cars or full on race cars that will never come near MI let alone Stanton do not count. Plus if you want to do the favor and go back and pull my quote from the same forum very clearly stating that I use Mellings as these JW cams would not be legal at the PS races.

    Nice try but no dice.

BTW if you were having someone help you with your custom build and custom cam would'nt you want them to make the cam custom to your build? That is why the two lower quotes are relevant. If I am investing my time for someone they can expect I will try my best to make the best choices for their specs and desired use. Even better I have never charged one of these people for my time. It is donated and yet I still take it that seriously. Because that is what genuine people do for each other.

    Mark

Edit: Opps, forgot to mention I have built cams for friends boats and a Jeep CJ. Just making sure there is full disclosure in case one of the boats or a monster Jeep show up at Stanton to race PS.

P.S. Just so that there is full disclosure on my part as well, I have to admit that I'm running a WC (Sip Air IV) cam in my Briggs and Stratton lawn mower. It vaporizes the grass clippings,so it's good for the environment too.

Well, I have a JW cam in my John Deere, and it not only vaporizes grass clippings, the stall on the hydrostatic is still within factory spec.

PS - Don't tell anyone, but I'm putting a CM cam in there this year that will require roller tipped spark plugs so that I can up the stall on the hydrostat ......

Damn Casey! You get all the trick stuff first!

My lawn mower has a manual trans., and I guess I may as well admit that I'm running a slipper system.Mostly because I'm to lazy to tighten the belt.
