    Hey everyone.
Im going to give my wifes 71 Riviera a new paintjob.
The car is Gold colored now and it should become the original gold again. :)

Now, after a search on the net I found out the color is called

    Cornet Gold Poly

There are also 2 kind of numbers below the paint chip I found.
    55 and 2178

Now, with this knowledge I went to a color shop over here in Germany and wanted to select the correct color. They dont have paint chips that old, so they did a search on the computer and the only thing they found on the number 55 was

Champagne Gold, used in 70 and 71.

Back home I did a search on the net, and figured out that Champagne Gold was used on 72 Rivieras but with the #54.....

Now I was really getting confused....

Well, I was thinking about that and noticed over here, you only can search for General Motors Colors, but not for Buick. So I decided to do another search on 71 Chevy colors.
    Bingo!
71 Chevy used a Champagne Gold with the #55!

The second number is 2178. The same like the number from the Buick Cornet Gold.

Now Im 95% sure that must be the same color!

Can anyone of tell me if Im right? Is the 1971 Chevy Champagne Gold Poly (55 2178) the same color as the 1971 Buick Cornet Gold Poly (55 2178)???

    Thanks!

    Hi Juergen

They are the same color. GM's divisions sometimes called the same Fisher Body color a different name (sometimes they also called it the same name across divisions)

In any event, here's the 1971 chart -

You should be able to get that color mixed in BASF Glasurit or R-M. They are really good about having formulas in b/c for those older colors. :)

Well, thanks, but Ill buy that stuff from "Lesonal". We have a dealer around here, so when I need more Ill get it immediately.

Something strange happend yesterday. I went to the car to doublecheck the paint code from the fisher body plate. I figured out it is code 65!! Chopper mist poly!
I would never think the car is chopper now! Well, there are two layers of paint, but it still looks gold! Well, I guess the color changed a little during the last 33 years under californian sun. Im really wondering how the car looks like, when the new paintjob is done!!

    Thank you very much guys!
