believe me i know its a ton of work but its so worth it in the end. just make sure to stay away from the edges with that buffer, dont want to be touching up again. ive been lucky to be 6'5, its come in handy paint those roofs.:TU: and remeber maskin tape on he edges on the front and back when hangin the bumpers and grab a buddy cause im sure those riv bumpers arent light. ive made the mistake of knicking when im trying to hang a bumber on my own. now that will piss you off in about .2 seconds. i apologize if these are all things you plan on doing, just trying to help.

Thanks for reminding me about the masking tape trick.
I've had the bumpers off and on a few times over the years, and have found they balance very well on a floor jack. I've always done them myself.
Might be best to have a spotter on hand this time.

Congrats Dale... Looks great. I always liked that color when it was fresh..

Your 455 block might be around here for a while.. has the wierdest casting flaw I have ever seen.. it's missing the bottom of the cylinder in number 7, definately a casting flaw, that Q-C missed. Below the piston ride area, and obviously it would work, because it was in that car all those years..

But I will keep it around to use when I put the my STG car back together.. the date code is good for that car, and I have all the rest of the orginal drivetrain. It will make a nice "replacement motor" for that car.

No harm, no foul, I am sure you didn't see it, I didn't see it myself until it was all apart. Too bad, from the lifter bores it looks like a great block, some 70's are paper thin, others are really thick.. this appears to be the latter..

Here's a pic.. I have seen lots of 455 blocks, but never seen this before.

anyway.. good luck with the sanding and buffing, I look forward to seeing it when it's finished.

    Lookin' great!

You might want to mask the door openings, the hood seams, and the decklid / rear filler areas to keep all the compound out.. it's a pain to clean later.

That one reminds me of my old '69!

    Thanks Jim.
I remember you commenting about it still being under the car cover when you were over that evening picking up that engine.
    "Get to it man!" :spank:

Wow! Foundry QC was asleep that day!
Yeah, I never looked real close at that engine.
I pulled it, put the '72's oil pan on it to keep dirt out, and tucked it away under the bench.

    Hi Dale,

Great job! After all the hot and humid weather here in Minnesota the last couple of weeks this has been a nice break.

Good luck on the buff, I know you spent a ton of time on the wet sand.

I was ready to spray for weeks. The weather finally was perfect.
Did you ever get your driveshaft vibration sorted out?

Outstanding job. Wish I could get you to come help me paint my 70. I see you did not fill in the holes for the side spears. Guess you decided to put them back on. What are you going to use to attach the spears on the front frnders. If I remember correctly, they are held on by speed nuts that can only be accessed with the fenders off. I will be curious to hear your solution.

    Thanks Randy!
Yeah, I didn't feel like filling in all those holes for the sweepspear trim.
For the front fenders I am going to buy tubular nuts/barrel clips that Cars Inc sells.
Something like this. They sell nylon ones too.

Nice job , I personally don't like raised white letters on a full size Buick, but I will have to admit,.... they look just right in this application. I would love to own one like this combo someday.

    Thanks!

To be honest, I don't care for the look of the raised letters as much as I once did.
I had that look on my '66 Riv, and even the '72 Electra I once owned.
(Like wearing tennis shoes with a suit)

I will be going back to blackwalls at some point. Maybe even whitewall for a more original appearance.

Yes, but if you change the title into "Painted the Riv yesterday almost two months ago", you will face the same problem......:pp :pp

Not yet. Got busy with other things in life.
Can't wait to get to the point of putting all the trim back on!
I did get the headlights and headlight doors on. I had to put something back on it.

just remember, the longer it sits, the harder it is to sand and buff. its going to be like buffing a rock soon.:TU: i know how it goes when life gets in the way though.
