    The rad you are looking at doesn't have a trans cooler? If you are using a automatic trans you should run the fluid through the rad first before it goes too the external cooler. In the trans business we will not warranty any rebuilt trans where the in rad (factory) cooler has been by-passed. In a hi performance app that is street driven it is a must to use both, but if it is a 1/4 mile at a time only You can get away with using a external cooler only, if is a good self by-passing cooler like the "True Cool" cooler. Here is the rad and fan kit I have http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BCI-62008/ $660 from Summit. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FLX-295/ $460 from summit. That would cost $1120 for the pair, I will sell both $750 +shipping Here is a link to the trans cooler that was bought to use with the rad set-up in the 86 Regal that these parts came from. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PRM-12318/RepairParts/?prefilter=1&query=Part+Type|Fans,+Electric Chris

    Thanks, Chris.

    On my prior Buick 455 Regals, I used a 24,000-gvw B&M cooler and ran 180-degrees (sitting in drive for over 1-hour in 99-degree weather) with a used/rebuilt/pressure tested junkyard "heavy-duty 2-core radiator" for $80, a Flex motor driven fan, stock th400 3-speed, stock intake/exhaust, and a Pee-Gee 10:2 compression Lunati 501-lift cam Buick 462.

    I never used the tranny cooler in the radiator application.
    I appreciate the offer/deal:) ... I am just going to order the 27" core-width $499 BC aluminum radiator.

    This is the B&M SuperCooler (attached pic) I have.

    I'm not sure I understand what you are saying with the 180* sitting in the drive way. Do you mean the engine was 180*? That is a great choice on picking that trans cooler, don't have to worry about a line blowing off. It doesn't have a internal by-pass but that is fine for a car that gets driven in the spring/summer months only. If you call B&M tech they will tell you it should go though the rad cooler first and to not use a external cooler as a stand alone for a street car. The trans will not build much heat in the fluid while sitting in the drive way. How ever going through the rad cooler will help get the trans fluid up to operating temp faster but at the same time help it from overheating the fluid while under heavy load..... Chris

    ... I put the car in DRIVE holding the brake (like sitting in traffic for over an hour) in 99-degree heat that day and the engine temp stayed at 180-degrees. I understand what you are saying regarding the tranny cooler in radiator use ... I was always told differently by Scotty at Pee-Gee Buick ... and all others ... till NOW.

    I promise to look into this. I just was never informed to do so.
    Thanks, Chris.:TU:

    ... Just spoke to B&M;

    They state that either way is fine. I drove my prior 462Regal in the Spring, Summer, Winter, and Fall with no tranny issues with the solo B&M cooler (except for having one of the rubber hoses rupture @ 4" from the cooler).

    I am using braided stainless steel lines for complete fuel & tranny fluids this time around.:TU:

    The guy at B&M thought I have a '87 Special-T "TURBO-6";

    When I told him a "Buick 455" he was like, "Whoaaaaa!!! That's NOT the 3.8, I see!":TU:

    Chris, the OCD in me will NOT allow what B&M just told me to stick; I MUST continue research proceedings.:TU:

    That is very strange that you called and they said it was ok, the only reason I suggested what they would recommend is because I called there tech line at 1-818-882-6422 and was told what I already knew, that B&M can NOT recommend using any of there coolers without going through the rad first. Great tech line! On my drag car I run through a TrueCool external cooler only but no way would I do it on a street car. Yes it as been done, but is it the right way? After running two transmission shops, I have seen what can happen. Chris

    ... I swear-to-God that's the saaaame number I called/spoke to someone.:)

    The tranny-builder just told me he had his B&M tranny cooler with no radiator assistance/no issues for over 20-years with over 500-runs ... and the car is his daily-year-round-driver.

    Hey, I give up (lol).

    ... the other day I went to the garage to find a location for the brake vacuum canister. I want to install it in the position of a pic I saw online the other day ... but "that guy" had no windshield washer tank (in that location is where I wanted mine).

    I bought the vacuum canister months ago from Summit.

    Now, this came to mind;
    get a much smaller windshield washer canister and mount it closer to the firewall in the stock location.

    No worries.

    So you didnt actually end up spending any more money.

    I also talked to my freind about the relay thing. What you showed is not correct. Summit doesnt carry it.

    His description was, that its a breaker that looks alot like an older fuse. If it trips, you just wait for it to cool off, and it resets itself. Its purpose is most commonly served in big rigs with the little sleeping area in the back, or winebagos.

    Talk to a truck shop, or a place that rebuilds (not just replaces) starters and alternators.

    Hey, Online170.

    Apparently, I made a mistake. The MSD box I ordered (link) is NOT the "programmable" unit. Last night I was looking through my Summit catalog ... and noticed I ordered a MSD6AL-2 box. I called Summit to try and change the order ... and that's when I was told that the "6AL-2 PROGRAMMABLE" requires the use of a Windows-based laptop computer (which I do not own).:(

    I get the MSD Saturday (tomorrow).:beer

    You will still like it.

    The reason i recommended the programmable, is the timing setting is usually for chebby's or ford, which is very similar. The BOP were a bit different, so you wont utilize the full potential, but itll be very good non the less. You'll like that you can just set the rev limit and not have to buy a pill for the exact rpm.

    I figured you knew about the laptop, its kinda good and its kinda bad. Yea you would have to carry around a big laptop, but the level of adjustment is awesome for me.

    " ... If I had a laptop, the MSD6AL-2 programmable would be MINE." I love the "no-chip" RPM adjustments ... I didn't even know they mad a MSD6AL-2. I also watched the videos on the "6AL-2" box ... this thing is sweet. :TU:

    Thanks again for introducing me to "life-beyond-MSD6AL.":TU:

    I LOVE THE BOX.:beers2:
