You could argue that it was a vehicle of comparable weight and size. And that their system didn't have older vehicles in it. I don't think it matters, either way your getting dropped after they pay out
Dropping you would be a sure thing Jason . If you go on U-Hauls site they ask what you are towing with and what you are towing . List goes back to the 40's so I'm sure they list all vehicles , maybe with the wrong info as I found out with my Avanti that they said was TOO WIDE ????. I don't know about Penske trailers but U-hauls have the Left side fender swing down so you can get into and out of the car on the trailer . Works real nice
Worst case scenario you'll be on the hook for the cost of the trailer. As long its not way overloaded I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Their big yank is they don't want the trailer and load to weigh more than the row rig. Regardless of the capacity of the truck.
I guarantee my Buick plus the U haul weighed more than my Silverado but was still well under its towing capacity....
I agree . My 69 Electra would be close to 4800 pounds . That plus the trailer is well over what my Silverado weighs .
When I went to pick up my frame from hugger the uhaul guy never even asked me what I was putting on the trailer nor inspected my vehicle lol. I did however have to wait 45 minutes past the pick up time( and signs on the doors) for this guy to even show up to his little two bay mech shop. That was a little annoying when you have the wife and little one with you for a 8 hour round trip. He just complained about how stupid the new system was and seemed annoyed I was there. What ever got the job done and now know where a “flexible” renter is lol.
It’s not too heavy. It’s too old so it’s not in the system. Tell them it’s a 72 Skylark and you will be good to go. Cliff
One of the overlooked issues is not whether the load can be pulled. The issue my be whether it can be stopped within a reasonable distance given the conditions such as terrain.
My Challenger Hellcat is 4400 pounds. Way more than a GS. I have no idea where all the weight is? Car has sub frame and plastic bumpers.
U-Haul's system goes back into the 40 's . They do question your towing vehicle . They don't seem to like any vehicle over 15 or so years old . My 2000 Silverado is probably better to tow with than some trucks that are 10 years old.
I used Hertz truck and towed my GS from NJ to NC back around 1999. I've also used UHAUL to tow my 94 Ford Explorer. U-Haul doesn't care what you do with their equipment and they don't really care about their customers either so make sure the vehicles you rent from them have the stuff you need that they don't really maintain, like functioning brakes, windshield wipers etc. you know.... stuff like that, that I had to file a complaint with the credit card company for....
Another no problem move with a U-Haul car trailer . Everything functioned perfectly . Picked it up 7:30 AM Friday . Returned it 1 PM Saturday and they only charged me a 1 day rental . 360 miles
