A while ago, my numbers matching 65 GS motor ate a park plug electrode, with all the resulting damage you would expect. It had 75k on it, and was tired even before this happened.
I finally tore it down yesterday, and we made the decision to not do an entire rebuild. The bore is scuffed pretty bad, but should hone out OK at maybe .003 or so. The piston was destroyed, the head and dome were hammered and it caused a huge spiral crack, the kind were all used to seeing. Hell, that might have even been there before?

Anyway, I have a couple of pretty good OEM pistons to choose from, looks like we'll take that bore out as far as reasonable, and use an abradable coating like Line 2 Line to take up the clearance and accommodate any remaining flaws.

Does anyone have an incomplete set of standard bore 4.1875 rings they'd part with? I really only need one pistons worth, although it would be nice to have two in case I screw something up..

Please replace any Bosch Platinum 4236 plugs if you're using them. Although I loved them and they performed great, electrode seperation is a known flaw with these plugs.. Google "Bosch Platinum Electrode Breaking" and you'll see what I mean, it's destroyed quite a few BMW motors..I put in a claim with Bosch, which they promptly denied, placing the engine itself. I'll be filing suit on this one shortly, their denial wasnt grounded in fact or evidence.

And I'll throw in a picture of the car with the new motor - still working on that one, but it's cearly making some torque..

I'd check the rest of the pistons for cracking too:eek:
