I bit the bullet and bought the Pro6ten compressor from Classic Auto Air. I was very clear to them that I would be using R12 in my system and the only reason for the change was the problematic front seal leaking. On a 400 mile drive last Sat I lost most of my charge after the second rebuild and less than a year old. So I get the box in the mail yesterday and it says "For 134A" Called Curtis @ CAA. He assures me that its ok for 12 and that I should clean and flush the system of all the mineral oil, install the new unit and recharge with 12. Red Flag! Theres a reason you flush and clean the system when going from 12 to 134. POE(for 134A) and Mineral oil(for R12) are not compatible. I put in a call to CAA again and left a message for tech support to call me back. I want to drain and flush the new compressor of all the POE and refill with the correct 8OZ of mineral. Wanted to ask if that would damage the unit or void my warrantee. Wadda ya think?

That is the recommended method for converting. But I'd get it in writing from CAA, just to be safe.

    Briz,

I would not suspect that would be a problem.

I fully agree. wonder why the rep from CAA would tell me to charge 12 on top of the incorrect oil which would certainly cause a problem.

Because reps are not always qualified to give expert advise and sometimes miss details that could be catastrophic.
Nice catch on that red flag. :TU:
