I recently acquired a 68 430 from an Electra. I am planning to clean it up and drop it in my 66 Skylark convertible. I was able to remove the nut on the pulley for the power steering pump but the pulley is still on there good. What's everyone's favorite puller tool or method to get this off?

BTW, is there a similar bracket for the pump that doesn't have the mounting holes for the smog pump?

    Thanks,

Its not pressed on. You shouldnt need a puller. Soak it with some PB blaster screw the nut on so you dont screw up the threads and give it a few taps with a hammer

Maybe another general purpose nut, not that beauty. :p:p and heat may be required.

It can be miserable but it's not very sturdy so try not to get aggressive. It's keyed so it can get caught on the key. Try to work it a bit with a rubber mallet. I think a puller might bend it. Agree on penetrating oil

Impact wrench. once the nut is off the pulley is loose.

Thanks everyone, I was able to get the pulley off with some persuasion.

  8. For those looking at this thread in the future, besides the other DIY solutions, most auto parts store will rent a puller for free, although it will be embarrassingly easy to get off with a puller.
