Hey all, my power steering pump started leaking in the fall right before it was time for hibernation. Well, spring is almost upon us, and since it's been untouched for 45 year I figured I might as well rebuild it. Bought a kit with all seals/o-rings. I've not done one before but it looks pretty straightforward. Anybody have any tips/tricks to pass along? Thanks!

It's actually very simple. A reseal like you're contemplating takes care of most pump leaking issues. Look at the housing. Sometimes people will pry against it and deform it, causing it to leak where the pump itself seals to it. Other than that, take pictures as you take it apart and oil everything up as you go together.

My problem has always been hoses or the big o-ring around the housing/pump body. I didn't have to replace the shaft seal to solve my problems but I replace every seal that was easy and cleaned off the magnet inside of all the debris.
