Well, with this year‘s GS nationals speeding up on us and with us needing every spare minute to get ready for it, we have replaced all of the fuel lines and checked all of the connections, clamps and fittings on the silver bullet. We had help, my 13-year-old daughter is ready to start racing, she was in the driver seat of the yellow car last week and in the driver seat of the silver car today!
We got our trans problems worked out, fingers crossed, and we are replacing all of the 16-year-old trans, fuel, expendable parts that we’ve overlooked until now. This car was put together some 16 years ago and, although it has not been driven many miles, these parts do age! We found that our fuel line between the fuel tank and the fuel filter was shrinking and had hardened/petrified!
Thank you GS 66, observe My daughter shoots her hand gun this way and plans to race the same way! This kid is a wolf in sheep‘s clothing!
Eathan, thank you for posting the updated rules for 2019. I think we are well within all of the listed changes for this year. Looking forward to racing with all of my buddies from last year!
From the tank, there is a 1/2” rigid steel tube (exits from the top of the tank) which I would call the “draw line “. It terminates at a length which is about equal to the backside of the tank. From there, we use a 13” piece of marine grade fuel line which connects to the large canister style filter. On the exit side of the canister filter, there is a 2 foot distance of braided line/Russell fitting section between the canister and the frame mounted electric fuel pump. From there, it’s all Russell fittings and braided line which runs inside the frame of the passenger side and up into the engine compartment to a regulator which has two smaller fuel lines that feed the carburetor. We use those metal strap securing fittings with the rubber lining and screw the fittings down to frame so that everything is secure.
Darren was your 13 y/o excited about the M/T's? You'll have to enlist her help when it comes time to install. Love the shooting pattern too!!
So we’ve got the new powerglide in, took it out last night for a couple of test hits, this thing is a beast! I have to learn how to drive again to be a competitor this year.
Hey Darren! Wondering about that powerglide; how heavy is your car? Do you mind sharing your rear gear and what type and stall converter you put in with it? Not questioning why you went PG, just wonder what all you have with it. Have a good one!
According to the binder that I looked at which outlines the build of this car, W/O driver, the car weighs 3000 pounds. Converter is a 4500 RPM stall unit. Not sure what brand. The car owner (Alan) wanted to stick with the powerglide, so he had it rebuilt. We had trouble last year at the GS nats during the very first time I heated the tires. As soon as the tires heated and made traction, it lost low gear. I ended up running in high-gear-only during the racing. In about 2:40 seconds things start to go wrong
The saga continues… We buttoned up a bunch of little items today and then the powerglide went South again…
Anyone with info on the 2018 GSR saga concerning my car will tell ya, it's always a struggle. DONT BACK DOWN!!!! I conceded defeat in the pits day of and it has haunted me ever since.
