I have a 6ten compressor on my 70 stage 1 car - system was converted to 134R - the compressor's front seal leaked. There was still about 1 pound of Freon still in the system - however the compressor would not cool. The AC guy installed another compressor (replacement), on this compressor the clutch would not operate. Or, should I say it operated once and then would not engage. I felt that I had researched the compressors thoroughly and had a system that would give years of service. Now, I am not so sure - I read somewhere (a year back or so) that the pro 6ten was a great replacement............. now I am not so sure. I would appreciate thoughts on this compressor - or did I just have a "run" of bad luck??? (additional info: the high pressure limits were within limitations - up to the point of seal failure the ac worked great - there is an inline high pressure limit switch which did kick off once) thx byron

Wow. I'm sorry to hear that you've had problems.
I've used about 8 of those compressors in the last 6-7 years and have had no failures of any kind. The only failures that I've personally heard of were mounting lugs breaking on some of the real early ones. That issue was resolved long ago.
I'm inclined to say it's just bad luck, but...:puzzled:
