Putting a new engine in my car and we have had lots of probletwirj pulley and clearances. Worked through some of them, but now with the power steering pump installed, the belt won't clearance the new water pumps larger boss.

My power steering pulley is a # 1386935. It is 5 1/4" in diameter. I need to drop the belt down approximately 1/4" to clear the boss. Any suggestions...smaller power steering pump pulley,(it is a bolt on, not a press on.) smaller crank pulley???
T/A offers a billet crank pulley, that will supposedly cure this problem, but they are out of stock at the moment. Thanks

Don't know your set-up but you could space your power steering forward so you could run the belt on the forward/front belt groove of the water pump and crank pulley? That is if your not running A/C. This could get you buy until you find another solution.

Thank you Ricardo, that is certainly an option, as the car is a non-A/C car. All options are good and appreciated.

I would also be looking for a T/A billet crank pulley, # TA-2029B if someone would be willing to part with one. I they wanted, I would replace it, when they come back into stock, or just buy it outright. Thanks.

Need pics to visualize what your talking about -which boss. TA's stuff is generally pretty good about being adirect service replacement, or noted when it's not.

I had to grind the bottom of the pump on Mandys car for clearance. Talked to Mike in BG and he is aware of the issue.

There is another post about this a few months back.

Rhett, I am talking about the boss that runs horizontally on the new pump. It sticks out farther than O.E., so it is causing issues for my power steering pump belt on the drivers side.

Keith, do you have any idea about how much you had to grind? How much is safe???

I tried to grind a little with a file but that cast alum was harder than expected and once I enlongated the slots on the ps and used the new belt you'll be fine. I would be interested in an alternate solution if you find one. Good luck.

There is other factory 3 pulley crank pulleys that have smaller power steering pulley 5 3/4 vs 6 3/16 which is what you have John, Its slightly shorter but the power steering and the second groove are the same it has a bit smaller gap between the 2nd and 3rd pulley's as you can see in the picture so if you are wanting to use the out side pulley you need to check alignment but that said you would only use it if you had AC or dual pulley's on the water pump and Alt. Or you use the longer TA WP and get matching 71 and up crank and water pump pulley's but it will move the fan closer to the rad. 1235777 and matching WP pulley is 1235778. Hope this makes sense.

Yes Chris, Since my car is a non air car and have not run dual alternator pulleys, it should work for me. The pulley for the crank that I need is a #1235777...correct? Thanks.

Yes that is what I will send you, the matching WP pulley for the long water pump 1235778 and I don't have the part #s at my finger tips but you can also look for a single small ID water pump pulley that was offered in 1971.
