After posting my tire/wheel combo in "The Hides" section, I thought I would give an update on my car's progress. The front clip is nearing completion and am providing some pics for those interested. The front frame/suspension assembly unbolts not unlike an early Camaro/Nova. The new unit is just about ready for bolting together and just waiting on a power steering rack to arrive from Unisteer. Not shown are the shocks and brakes. When it's done, I'll provide pics showing everything as an assembly. ---Jim
May be wishful thinking, but I'm shooting for 2500 lbs. Stock is around 2100 + depending on options. ---Jim
Are ya trying to break into the 5 second quarter mile range ?? lol Jim,did you make those control arms yourself ?
I doubt if the car will ever see a racetrack. It's strictly a show car that will be driven to the events (except perhaps Bowling Green). Although it won't be raced, I tend to have a "lead foot" and a little bit of showing off is never out of the question.p I have to give Scott's Hotrods the credit for the great job they're doing on the front subframe assy. They built a jig from my original unit in order for the mounting points to be "bolt in" and I've never seen better Tig welding. ---Jim
Here's another installment. The shocks shown are for fitment only. The proper ones are on order and are smaller in diameter. Other than that and some kind of finish (paint?), it's all done. For those in SoCal and going to the Rod show @ the L.A. Fairplex this weekend, Scott's will have it on display in their booth  . Here are some more pics. ---Jim
One of the best driving cars I ever had was an Opal Manta. 50/50 weight distribution. Don't think you will have that. On the snow I was doing drifting before anyone thought of it. Could drive that car sideways all day long. I don't think you are going to need snow to drive it sideways. :3gears:
Re: Project Opelsauce Couple more pics for Rob. And a little bit of Manta drifting for Doug. ---Jim
Thanks Jim, Have not seen a Manta in Michigan for 20 years. I am sure they have all rusted away. That is a really great project. Looking forward to seeing it someday.
