I'm looking at a 71 stage one it has the original TS engine it was built in California and it never had a cowl tag installed from the factory no holes drilled in the cowl from the factory Has anyone ever come across this before little reluctant to do a further evaluation of the car ? Thanks for the help advance.

That's really strange. Never heard of that before. 1971 cars are the hardest to document. There is no information in the VIN. Being the car is 47 years old now, lots could have happened to it in the past. I'd be very leery. It is possible that the original cowl tag was lost in a firewall repair, who knows? Like this owner of a Camaro,

It’s hard enough to document a 71 with the cowl tag. Ditto above, be very leery.

If you do go inspect it, pop the H clip off the end of the cowl screen and stick your hand or a mirror inside the cowl to inspect for sheet metal repairs or filler where the pop-rivets should have been. I’ve never heard of a car not having a cowl tag from the factory. Buyer beware.

Maybe someone required a cowl tag to replace one on a stolen '71 like yours!

I saw the ad a little while ago and messaged the owner. I’m pretty sure I know the car, it used to reside about a mile down the road from my shop (I’m just outside of Syracuse) until the plaza it was stored in was sold. If you’d like, I’d be happy to check it out for you. 71’s are pretty tough to document, as you know. It’s not that far away, and has been in the area for a long time. The owner is not a Buick guy, hence the misspelled title in the ad. If it’s the same car, it was extremely nice, but that was 10 years ago. NOT a rot box by any means! Legit Stage 1 car??
